“Adolescence”
Adolescence could be described as a period in between the age of 12 and 20 (may
differ depending on the person) in which the human body produces the bigger amount
of hormones it has and will ever produce. As a result, several, both physical and mental
changes happen to the host, who usually is not ready for it.
In the first text, adolescence is defined an awful experience, or at least the emphasis is
on the negative side, garnished with many synonyms used to describe the
professionals whose job is to inform about the process, although the writer seems to
have some problem with that, or more specifically, with them instead. A small glimpse
of hope can be spotted on the last three lines, but quickly it banishes and it all returns
to where it should be, to the “time of pain, embarrassment, self-doubt and loss”.
The second text, on the other hand, focuses on letting the parents know that it is not
their fault if their children feel these changes, that everyone has been through the
same. Therefore, a moody, loud, distant and rebellious teenager is a mandatory phase
that might not seem pleasant but it will be passed by the age of 20 (once again, it may
differ depending on each person). In the meantime, parents should not try to change
the behavior of their children, as it may even make it worst.
For both kids and parents, it is important to inform them, about the good and also the
bad things about adolescence, so when it comes, they are not fully prepared, but as
best as they can. Focusing on the bad side will not only assure that the relationship is
going to be uncomfortable for both sides, and all of them are going through a lot
already, so let´s focus on the bright side instead.
