1. Module Description

This module introduces students to some advanced topics in reliability engineering and design
of experiments. The topics covered are: reliability concept and measure, lifetime distributions,
probability plot, life testing, accelerated life testing, warranty data analysis, factorial design,
fractional factorial design, and Gaussian process.

2. Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module, students should be able to:


1. understand the definition of reliability
2. able to use lifetime distributions and the inference methods to fit reliability data
3. able to plan a life test
4. understand the techniques for warranty data analysis
5. understand basic concepts in design of experiments
6. able to apply factorial design and fractional factorial design.
7. Appreciate the application of Gaussian process

• Basics of DoE
• Factorial design

Assessment:
• 2 homework assignments: 20%
• Final Exam: 80%
