Songs play an important part in Scouting. This book, with its hundreds of songs that Scouts love to
sing, is a handy reference for all Scouts and Scout Leaders in the Philippines.
This e-book edition of Songs Scouts Sing was created by Bong Saculles
for the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.
Foreword
Songs play an important part in Scouting. Through songs, the leader can set the mood and the
emotional tone for any gathering, be it for solemn or joyous occasions or any other atmosphere in
between.
As a medium for emotional expression, the leader can use songs to fit the mood of a group or the other
way around – influence the mood of a group through an appropriate song. Both, probably are true. And
singing should be recognized by leaders as a force that can be used in the field of character-influencing,
especially among Scouts.
Scouts sing not only songs for fun, for there are many fun songs to sing songs in Scouting, but songs
that fit and are appropriate for other Scouting occasions.
We sing songs of fellowship because we enjoy each other’s company and friendship; we sing songs to
commemorate events or express religious and patriotic fervor; we sing songs for greetings, farewell and
inspiration, and through the singing, the wise leader can help his Scouts find a world of beauty and
inspiration.

Scouting Spirit
Scout-Hearted Men
On My Honor
[Lyrics by RR de la Cruz]
(Tune: A Place)
I know a place
Where Scouters always go
Where there is fun
And hearts are all aglow
It overlooks the bay as it rises to the sky
Where the moonbeams flirt with dewdrops
As the breezes sigh
God fills the soul, the body and the mind
Scouting ideals are never hard to find
Now I know, Makiling is the place for me

Inspirational Songs
Wonderful world
Refrain:
Wonderful, wonderful
Wonderful, wonderful world.
Wonderful, wonderful
Wonderful, wonderful world.
I
If we could consider each other,
A neighbor, a friend or a brother
This could be a wonderful, wonderful world,
This could be a wonderful world.
II
If each little boy could have Scouting each day,
If each working man had enough time to play;
If each homeless soul had a nice place to stay,
This could be a wonderful world.
III
If there were no poor and the rich were content,
If strangers were welcome wherever they went;
If each of us knew what true brotherhood meant;
This could be a wonderful world
We Shall Overcome
We shall overcome,
We shall overcome,
We shall overcome, someday.
Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe
We shall overcome someday.
A Little Love
(A boy’s plea)
Trees
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed,
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast.
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray.
Special Day
Fill the air with song of cheer
With voices loud and clear,
For people around you
Are Scouts who love you
Love you in a special way
And so before say goodbye
Give us your great, big smile
Brighten up, let’s all be gay
(It’s a very special day) 2x
Oh Freedom
Oh freedom, oh freedom
Oh freedom over me
And before I’d be slave
I’ll be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free
No more mourning, no more mourning
No more mourning over me
Repeat refrain:
2. Crying
3. There’ll be: Singing, Clapping, Dancing, Scouting
It” s A Long Road to freedom
It’s a long road to freedom
A-winding steep and high,
But when you walk in love
With the wind on your wings,
And cover the earth
With songs you sing
The miles fly by.
Guide a boy
Never walk through the world all alone,
Never leave all the paths you have trodden.
Every day is a bright new tomorrow,
Yesterday must not be all forgotten.
I Believe
I believe for every drop of rain that falls,
A flower grows.
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night,
A candle glows.
I believe for everyone who goes astray,
Someone will come to show the way.
I believe, I believe.
Tell Me Why
Tell me why the stars do shine,
Tell me why the ivy twines.
Tell me why the sky’s so blue
Tell me ------- (dear Scouter)
Just why I love you.

You’ll Never walk Alone
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high,
And don’t be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And a sweet silver song of the lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown,
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,
And you’ll never walk alone,
You’ll never walk alone.
No man is an Island
No man is an island, no man stand alone;
Each man's joy is joy to me,
Each man's grief is my own.
We need one another, so I will defend
Each man as my brother, each man as my friend.
Refrain:
I saw the people gather, I heard the music stand,
The song that they were singing
Is singing in my heart.
In My Fathers House
O come and go with me (Hallelujah)
To my Father’s house (Hallelujah)

A Place
I know a place where no one ever goes
There’s peace and quiet, beauty and repose.
It’s hidden in the valley beside a mountain stream.
And lying there beside the stream
I found that I can dream.
Only of things of beauty to the eyes,
Snow-peaked mountains, climbing to the skies
Now I know that God made this world for me.
Chorus:
All day, all night,
Angels watching over me, my Lord.
All day, all night.
Angels watching over me.
And if I die before I wake
Angels watching over me, my Lord.
Pray the Lord my soul to keep
Angels watching over me.
Old Favorites
Ramona
Ramona, I hear the mission bells above,
Ramona, They’re ringing out our song of love.
I praise you, caress you,
And bless the day you taught me to care
I’ll always remember
The rambling rose you wore in your hair.
Ramona, when day is done you’ll hear my call,
Ramona, we’ll meet beside the waterfall,
I dread the dawn when I awake to find you gone
Ramona, I need you my own.

On moonlight bay.
I Want A Girl

That married dear old Dad.

Shine upon my brow today
Life is fading fast away.
Jaunita

Blow, blow winds of the sea
Bring back my loved one to me.

Dreadful sorry Clementine.
Oh, Susanna
I came to Alabama with my banjo on my knee,
I’m gwine to Louisiana my true love for to see
It rained all night the day I left,

De sun so hot I froze to death;
Sussana, don’t you cry.

I’ve come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee.
Oh, Susanna, oh, don’t cry for me

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Reach your hands to someone near,
Shake his hand and smile.

Nakinig ang bingi.
Doon po sa amin,
Bayan ng Malabon,
May isang matandang
Nagsaing ng apoy.
Papel ang palayok,
Papel pati tuntong,
Tubig na malamig,

Bukid ay basa, tag-ulan noon,
May mutyang biglang sa aki’y nagtanong,
Kung nais ko raw siya ay tutulong,
Sa pagtatanim ko ng palay maghapon.
Dungawin Mo Hirang
(1)
Irog ko’y pakinggan awit na mapanglaw,
Na nagbuhat sa isang pusong nagmamahal;
Huwag mong ipagkait, awa mo’y ilawit,
Sa abang puso kong naghihirap sa pag-ibig.
(2)
Dungawin mo hirang ang nananambitan,
Kahit sulyap mo man lamang iyong idampulay;
Dalagang Pilipina
Ang dalagang Pilipina,
Parang tala sa umaga.
Kung tanawin ay nakaliligaya;
May ningning na tangi’t dakilang ganda.
Maging sa ugali, maging sa kumilos;
Mayumi’t mahinhin lahat ang kanyang anyo.
Malinis ang puso maging sa pag-irog,
May ganda at tibay ng loob.
Katakataka
Katakatakang mahibang ang katulad ko saiyo,
Birubiro ang simula ang wakas pala ay ano;
Sampaguita
Mabangong bulaklak ng lahi
Sampaguitang sakdal ng yumi
Kung ikaw ay kuwintas na yari
Nagniningning ka sa uri
Sa leeg ng isang dalaga
Hiyas kang sakdal pinipita
Ganda mo’y may taglay na gayuma
Bango mo'y may dulot na ligaya.
Lulay
Anong laking hirap
Kung paka-iisipin
Ang gawang umibig
Sa babaing mahinhin.
Lumalakad ka na’y
Di ka pa man din pansin,
Sa hirap ika’y kanyang susubukin.
Koro:
Ligaya ng buhay
Babaing sakdal inam
Ang halaga niya’y
Di-matutumbasan
Kahinhinan niya’y tanging kayamanan.
Maalaala Mo Kaya
Maalaala m kaya
(2)
Asahan pangarap nitong buhay
Lahat ng araw kita’y mamahalin.
Sa labi ng imbing kamatayan
Itangi yaring pagmamahal.
Tulutang magtapat sa iyo hirang
Lahat ng araw kita’y mamahalin
(Repeat from 2)
Silayan
Silayan at bigyan ng pag asa,
Pagmamahal pusong nagdurusa;
Iwasan ang pag-aalinlangan,
Lahat ng araw kita’y mamahalin.
Magtanim Ay Di Biro
Enga! Karabaw
Koro:
Enga! Karabaw-baw, Enga! Karabaw –baw
Enga! Karabaw-baw-baw-bi- baw. (repeat)
Sinisinta Kita
Kung ang sinta’y ulilahin
Sino pa kayang tatawagin?
Kung hindi si Neneng kong giliw;
Naku, kay layo sa piling.
Itik-Itik
Ang ibig ko sa bawa’t saglit,
Ay itik-itik ang marinig;
Kung ang sayaw mo’y minamasid,
Nagagalak ang aking dibdib.
At sa tugtog na walang patid,
Hindi na lamang nababatid;
Na sa iyo ay nananabik,
Ang aking pusong umiibig.
Tinikling
Tayo’y magsayaw irog ko ng Tinikling,
Tulad ng sayaw ng lolo’t lola natin;
Ang mga hakbang kung di pagbubutihin,
Dalawang kawayan tayo’y iipitin.
Kung nagsasayaw ka irog ng Tinikling,
Kumpas ng kawayan kahit mapatulin;
Koro:
At sa tinikling na tigib ng panganib,
Ang hindi maingat naiipit;
Pusong maharot ganyan din sa pagibig,
Ang nakakamit paghakbang ay ligalig.
Rosing
Rosing nga gina handum ko
Nga sang gugma, ikaw Rosing ginhalaran.
Nga kasubo ining bu-ot ko,
Kon dili ta ikaw Rosing mankit-an.
Koro:
Ay, Rosing nga nag sikway
Sining pobreng walay palad
Balikda man Rosing, balikda
Naga hulat sang pulong mo nga matam-is
Ang gin sa-ad mo sa akon Rosing
Isang hadumanan.
