Chapters 17 and 18 discuss basic concepts of accounting and financial managements. After
reading the assigned chapters, please discuss the followings in two pages.
1. Come up with a question on the assigned chapters, and describe why you came up
with the question, and how you will explore the question in the future.
After studying the chapter, I have a question: how can we construct rules for
checking financial managing system nowadays? It is because, with the fast
pace development of technologies and large scale of the companies, the shift
from traditional accounting and finanacial management into digital form is
inevitable. However, the machine can be exploited by outsiders without any
trace, or hint for report to the human manager team, which can be very
dangerous and costly. So how do we check that? I think it will require the
participation of human directly and also built tools to check and verify. The
larger the scale, the more difficult to check the correctness of the system.
2. Select a company that made a significant financial decision within last two years, and
discuss what was it, and how it went through.
I read about Coupang IPO in 2021. The company has been expanding in their
business and scale as well as the service greatly since the pandemic COVID-19 started. When
people have to stay at home, they spend most of their time doing stuff online, not exclude
shopping. The revenue of Coupang increase rapidly with more income and also more
customers requests. The company decided to open up their scale more with the newly
allocated resources by opening the company to the public. The inflow of money has been a
great deal, which helped Coupang to build more warehouse, develop more service, increase
customer experience by putting more money into their human resource development areas.
With the IPO and further progress from that, Coupang has been strengthening their
dominance in online shopping of South Korea and also still expanding to other countries in
the world.
