Chapters 11 & 12 discuss human resources management and labor union issues. After studying the assigned chapters, please conduct the following research, and prepare answers in less than two pages. 1. Come up with a question on the assigned two chapters, and describe why you came up with the question, and how you will explore the question in the future. How to create company culture that promotes both productivity and interaction among employees? I have this question because there are many company, where people just come and stay in their seat working until all tasks are finished or their working time are finished. On the outside perspective, this culture seems productive because employees fully focus on their tasks when coming to the company. But is it true? I think this will actually decrease the employees motivation because their only purpose of working in the office now is to finish their job and earn money, while communication and interaction are very important to us – human as social species. On the other hand, with too much interaction & talking outside of working, employees can get distracted and it make the office less formal place for working. In my past internship, everyone in the company likes talking with each others. There is a core working time (usually in the afternoon) when it is required for everyone to focus on their work. The talk among employees sometimes helps releases the stress and also get everyone closer and understand each others better. 2. As a current KAIST student, what do you believe are the most important characteristics for a future KAIST students to have? Why do you think they are important? How do you think the KAIST can admit candidates with those characteristics? I think the most important characteristic is having a strong desire to learn new things and being willing to share knowledge with others. Because our institute is research oriented, every students need to have an academic capacity to study here and improve their abilities more through learning not only from Professors but also from friends and everyone around. So a strong desire to learn is a must. Beside, to me, sharing is learning, while explaining a certain concept for others, we ourselves learn that knowledge once again and get a deeper understanding.
