CASELET - 1
SHIPRA TECHNOLOGIES

Q1) Identify the various emotional issues because of which the Shipra Technologies team,
headed by Vamsi, made a mess of the Kenstar contract.

➔ Vamsi was the Project Manager of a crucial project where he, along with his team of 25
staff members, was supposed to provide support services to a client of a company named Kenstar
Pvt Ltd. The support service contact was of three years. However, the contract was discontinued
because Vamsi was assigned the huge responsibility of handling the project along with his
teammates. Although he worked with dedication, he never paid attention to his teammate's needs
and opinions. He kept on invading his team's privacy by scheduling the official meeting during non-
working hours. It resulted in a lot of workplace conflict between him and is team members. Not
only this, but Vamsi was arrogant and scolded his team members for making mistakes even though
he knew that those mistakes might have been a reason of a technical glitch. The employees showed
discontent towards Vamsi’s behavior and decided to skip the work. All of these reasons led to an
ineffective work environment which ultimately failed the project.

Q2) What might Vamsi have done before things got out of his hand?

● Vamsi must have done the following to control the unfortunate outcome :
1) Being a leader, Vamsi should have motivated his teammates rather than pressuring them to
work in his way.
2) He should have taken into account all of his team member's opinions and worked in
harmony but instead, he choose to ignore their emotions.
3) Vamsi should not have scheduled the periodic meeting during the non-working hours
should have held it during the official working hours. He did not respect his team member's
privacy.
4) Instead of scolding his teammates for making mistakes, he should have politely pointed out
the mistake and should have helped his teammates to rectify it. A leader always works
towards building teamwork, but in this case, Vamsi being the leader pressured his teammates
and gave them a heavy workload. If he would have done things the way a true leader does, he
would have completed the contract and his teammates would have admired him for his work
and might have chosen him for future projects.
ANALYTICAL QUESTIONS

Q1. Assume you were asked to provide some ideas to improve the creative environment at your
workplace. What idea would you suggest? Explain in detail.

1. I would begin with giving the employees the liberty to personalize their work desks.
Employees spend a good amount of time at their workstations, so allowing them to decorate their
area in ways that are personal and appealing to them would enable them to maintain high spirits
during work. They should feel free to decorate their cubicle or office with personal photos, plants,
and desk lamps, but it is to be ensured that it does not invade their workmate's workspace.
2. I believe that trust is the building block of teamwork. And what better way to build trust
than sharing meals. Treating employees to lunch once a week and eating together makes
communication effective. Employees will be grateful for the perk, and the act of enjoying a meal
together builds companionship. It will enable them to stay motivated and slog through the work.
3. Working in a diverse environment is not always easy for everyone. To make everyone
feel comfortable in their workplace, it is crucial to organize small parties now and then so that
people from different backgrounds get to know each other. For instance, celebrating every
employee's birthday with cake and going out for dinner makes the employees feel important. When
staff can look forward to a fun reward, it makes going to work a lot more pleasant.
4. The traditional nine-to-five, Monday-to-Friday workweek isn’t necessarily the most
beneficial or productive schedule for everyone. Some people simply work better later in the day and
would benefit from a later start time. Others have family commitments and would rather work
longer hours on fewer days. Whenever possible, letting the employees choose their schedules
makes them feel less pressured and more responsible. That will inspire them to work smarter and
waste less time.
5. Last but not least. One of the most important places in a company is its refreshment
center. Sometimes when a company gets near to the deadline of a project, the employees tend to
work overtime to complete it. They might have to stay in the office for a longer period. Hence it is
very important to have a proper refreshment center in the company so that the employees can go for
periodic breaks. This helps in reducing unnecessary wastage of time and increases the productivity
of the employees.
Q2. Imagine you are at an interview for an important managerial post. You are asked ‘what is
your communication strategy as a leader? What are your communication beliefs? Give
your answer.

➔ If I were asked what my communication strategy as a leader would be, I would say the
following :
1) Clarity is the most important aspect of successful communication. Being able to
communicate in a clear manner helps a company’s success immensely.
2) Active listening is another important way to communicate effectively. It requires
listening to make a conscious effort to hear not only the words that another person is
saying but, more importantly, to try to understand the complete message being sent.
This helps to avoid any kind of misunderstanding.
3) Along with the clarity and active listening, asking good questions plays a key role in
communicating effectively. When asked the right questions in a particular situation, the
possibilities for better understanding take place.
4) Transparency is another key factor in communication. By speaking openly about the
company’s goals and challenges, leaders can build trust amongst their team and build an
environment where employees feel empowered to share their ideas. Just acknowledging
mistakes can encourage experimentation and create a safe space for active problem-
solving.
5) I feel that it is crucial to acknowledge and understand employees’ feelings and
experiences. They feel valued. It helps to improve communication within the company
and builds a stronger, more productive culture.
6) We should always be ready before sharing any important information with the team.
Preparing beforehand is very important because it helps in delivering all the vital
information while communicating with the team. It’s always a good idea to note down
all the important points that are to be communicated.
7) Communication is a two-way process and information cannot be exchanged effectively
if the flow of information is in a single direction. The most common example of
feedback is the questions that are asked at the end of a presentation. Feedback can be in
the form of doubts, suggestions, or thoughts.
