Appraisals are based on Balanced Scorecard, which tracks the achievement of employees on the basis of
targets at four levels — Financial, Customer Service, Internal learning and Growth.

of revenue growth, cost reduction, improved asset utilization and so on.

offered by the employee.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL IN TCS

TCS's performance appraisal system is supported by an

online system called the Human Resource Management
System- an Oracle Developer 2000 based tool. The system
individual right from his biographical details to his projects
performance. An employee's performance history at the click
of a button and this accurately maintained for 14000
employees! Right from his entry, an employee in TCS get
formal performance feedback once every two months till
such time that he is confirmed after which the performance
feedback is provided twice every year on a formal basis.
TCS however widely encourages informal feedback
discussions between Project Leaders and Team Members
and this concept has found an overwhelming appeal among
the people.
TCS also runs multiple initiatives to help employees grow in their
careers, such as CareerHub, a platform that provides them with
mentoring services. TCS also runs Inspire, a specialized program that
provides fast-track career progression to high-potential employees.
Periodic leadership reviews help us maintain a healthy succession
pipeline.
EMPLOYEE GRIEVANCE IN TCS
Employee grievance refers to the dissatisfaction of
employees with what they expect from the company and
its management and what they receive. A company or
employer is expected to provide an employee with a safe
working environment, realistic job preview, adequate
compensation, respect etc. However, employee
grievance is caused when there is a gap between what
the employee expects and what he receives from the
employer.

In TCS, the employee grievance starts with the

employees registering the complaint in the complaint
form (shown in the image). The grievance which was
lodged by the employee is then sent to the superiors.
Once the management receives the grievance, immediate
measures are taken up to solve the problem.
Major challenges faced by HR Manager

➢ Attrition
➢ Recruitment and Training
➢ Communication
➢ Performance Management
➢ Competency Development
➢ Participatory Culture
CONCLUSION

TCS is one of the top IT companies in India. HR culture is very prominent in TCS. So it is very important for the
employees to know about the HR policies applicable. In this project, we covered the basic roles that the HR is
responsible for, such as Recruitment, Selection, Training & development, Performance appraisal, Career Planning
& development, Employee grievance handling.

The selection process is tedious in TCS and only the best is selected. Once the candidate gets selected, he/she then
undergoes the training and development programs that are specifically set up for them.

Once the employee is onboarded, he/she is then eligible for the performance appraisal process that happens twice a
year. This helps them recognize their job related strengths and weakness.

All-in-all, TCS has managed to build an impeccable record of excellence due the strict company policies which are
imparted on the employees by the HR of the company.
