I. REFLECTION PAPER

To The Philippines Youth

This Poem express Patriotism. We must embrace the love, devotion, and sense of attachment
to our homeland, with alliance to other citizens who we share same sentiment. It also a
reminder that as youth, we need to extend our full effort to be true hope of our motherland.
Every line of the poem awakens my soul and reminds my whole being, that as a youth, I need to
be responsible for our country.
While reading this poem, I feel like Jose Rizal is really talking to me. He makes me realized that
my knowledge, skills, capabilities, and abilities, are bridge to help the Philippines and its people.
He encouraged me to believe in those qualities, to develop those qualities, and use those
qualities not just for myself, but most especially to my countrymen.
At this present time, the Philippines is suffering from economics aspect. As a youth, I must use
that situation as an instrument, for me to strive more, and give importance in my studies. As
what the poem expression, I am a Filipino youth, and I am born to be a light for the Philippines.

II. MAIN IDEA OF THE POEM

Jose P. Rizal: The poem “To the Filipino Youth” by Dr. Jose Rizal is a message primarily to tell
the importance of one's love and appreciation to his dialect or language, for it is the bridge and
intermediary connecting people's country to each other. In the poem, Rizal praised the rising
generation.

III. PURPOSE OF THE POEM

Dr. Jose Rizal compsed the poem “To the Filipino Youth,” dedicating to the youth of the
Philippines. He wanted the Filipino youth to use their capabilities, talents and skills to stand out
not only for their own praise and success but also for their own motherland, the Philippines. Dr.

are in need. Also, Dr. Jose Rizal challenged the youth through his poem to refine and nature
their talents in the arts, to invigorate and reinforce their knowledge of the science, and to look
forward and comminute their chain of servitude.

IV. LEARNINGS
The youth could be the backbone of the nation. They can change the future of the society with
their wellbeing, plucky and courageous behavior. Unfortunately, today we find some of the
youngsters more interested in sort of things which are not useful to them as well as to our
motherland. Some choose to spend their days taking drugs and alcohol, playing video games,
attending non-sense night parties and the worst thing is involving themselves in “premarital sex”
that ruin their future with the treat of becoming a parent on early age. Through not all of the
youth do this thing, we cannot deny the fact that there really is a problem concerning with the
productivity of other youth. We must admit, the youth today are out of control, they follow the
wrong path just for their own pleasure of selfishness. Majority of these individual rob and killing
people, most of theme are possession with drugs and liquors. Maybe because they feel like they
don’t have a role to act or a responsibility to take stand.
We, the youth, with regards on the problems we are facing currently, we should be one who
have a centered and powerful guidance, providing activities that will make us realize the real
essence of being a youth and course learn to realize what is really right and essential for
the sake of our precious nation. We must motivate ourselves for the betterment of the
Philippines.
