One example is Filipinos abroad, who experience racial discrimination when they
move to other countries. This discrimination is a lot different from what Filipinos
experience in the Philippines because there are many layers that intertwine with
Filipino communities living abroad. Filipinos are more likely to experience this form
of discrimination within their own families. This is because racial discrimination may
cause a Filipinos family members to lose their temper and lash out at each other.
People of color face particular forms of racism in countries where they are the
minority. Filipinos living in the other country with discrimination faced on a daily
basis, especially when it comes to job opportunities. Filipinos are one of the most
racially diverse groups in Europe although their overall number is very limited. Men
tend to report more frequent experiences than women although there is no evidence to
suggest that they actually experience racism more than women do. Many Filipinos
abroad recognize that racism is an issue that they, as a people, must overcome. They
recognize the struggles of their Filipino counterparts in the Philippines to gain respect
and equality with westerners. Many of these people are trying to build a better future
for themselves and their families back home. They realize that they have to develop
relationships with westerners in order to pursue this goal, and they are working hard
at it.
