A video designed for the sector to demonstrate what quality can look like in a family
day care service, and provide sample quality areas that they can aspire to. There are
many quality options available for early childhood education and care, and family day
care is one of these options. The National Quality Standards are in place to ensure that
quality standards perform part of every service, but this can look different in practice
depending on the service and community. This video demonstrates how one service is
meeting the national quality standards. The philosophy of family day care is where
education and care happens in a home environment where an educator delivers the
best quality outcomes for children in their own home.

The other important thing about quality family day care is that relationship between
the family and the educator, and the educator understanding what the needs of that
family are, and delivering that. A part of the community where children get to be a
part of everyday learning experience from going to the shop, to being outside and
digging in the garden, and all those things that happen in normal everyday home, but
with an educator who is informed by theory about their practice and the learning
frameworks, and they are planning around those and they’re documenting that so that
parents can see that what is happening for their children.
