the bear starts hunting the shapeshifter for food, but is soon caught in an ambush.

The
shapeshifter gets away, but the bear catches up to her with its powerful claws.

"You're not getting away from me!" says the bear menacingly. "I'll rip you apart if I have
to."

The shapeshifter laughs at him. "Do your worst," she taunts, as she attacks the bear again.
She leaps onto his back, scratching furiously. He tries to shake her off, but she digs her
claws into his thick fur. The two struggle violently for several minutes before they fall
down together. As they crash to the ground, the shapeshifter lands on top of the bear's head
and pins it down with her weight.

"Yield!" she shouts triumphantly. But the bear doesn't yield. Instead, he bites viciously at
her throat, trying to tear her open with his sharp teeth. Her blood drips down onto his face,
and he roars angrily.

"Stop this now!" screams the shapeshifter. "If you don't stop fighting right now, I swear that
I will kill you! Do you understand?"

For a moment, the bear seems to listen to her. Then he snarls, baring his fangs, and charges
forward. With one last lunge, he sinks his teeth into her shoulder.

"Ahh!" cries the shapeshifter. "It burns!"

The bear shakes his head fiercely, ripping her flesh. Blood pours out of her wound.

"Let go!" she screams. "Please let go!"

Her voice sounds weak and faint. In desperation, she grabs hold of the bear's neck with
both hands and pulls herself closer.

"I'm sorry," she whispers. "But I can't... give up..."

With a final roar, the bear releases her. His jaws snap shut around her throat. The
shapeshifter gasps for breath as the bear begins to feed.

"No!" shrieks the shapeshifter. "Stop!"

The bear ignores her pleas. Slowly, methodically, he feeds until there is nothing left inside
her body. When he finishes eating, he turns toward her limp form. A look of satisfaction
spreads across his face.

Then suddenly, the bear changes back into human shape. The transformation takes only
seconds; then he collapses beside her lifeless body. For a long time, he weeps over her
corpse. Finally, he looks up at the sky and lets out a deep sigh.
