What is Evidence
A sentence or sentences from the text
that supports or explains your idea(s).
Evidence exists in all types of text (both
fiction and nonfiction)
Cite evidence
use the words or sentences from
the text to help suport your idea/
opinion.

When we are asked to answer questions or


express our ideas about the text, we should use
