BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT GUIDELINES

IN TAKING THE SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT

GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. Final Summative Assessment (FSA) of an online class of a course shall be
administered every end of the term/semester starting 1st semester of AY 2021- 2022.
2. Students who fail in the Final Summative Assessment can retake it once on the date
set by the Biology Department Summative Assessment Committee (BDSAC) prior to
the start of the succeeding term/semester.
3. Students who failed in the FSA but earned a passing grade upon computation of the
sum of the PAA and FSA may opt not to retake the SA subject to the discretion of the
Professor.
4. For those who will retake the FSA, the grade of the student in the FSA is the
average of the two FSAs s/he has taken;
5. Final grade of the student in an online class of a course shall be based on the
weights of the grades earned from the Final Summative Assessment and the
Preparatory Assessments Activities (PAA), formerly referred to Formative
Assessments.

INTERNET STABILITY. Ensure a stable, uninterrupted internet connection for the


SA. If internet access fails during the exam, the student is allowed to continue in
taking the exam provided that s/he is able to resume within 5 minutes after the
connection was lost. This is admissible 2x only. Otherwise, the SA taken shall be
considered forfeited and the student will need to retake the exam. SAs with at least
20% of the total items answered prior to internet interruption shall be considered one
(1) attempt.

CHEATING. Cheating is a serious offense and is subject to disciplinary action


(please refer to your Student Handbook). The following are examples of this offense:
a) Any recording of the exam screens, including taking screenshots, pictures, or
video,
b) Copying the exam questions or answers,
c) Opening of other applications such as PDF, Microsoft Word, Power point
and Excel must be closed.
d) Opening of browsers other than the examination site such as Google and
Mozilla Firefox on other windows.
e) Bringing in resource materials within the Examination Area
f) Allowing other individuals (other than examinee) to stay or come in and out
of the room during the exam.
g) Soliciting and leaking questions, images, choices, answers, or any part of the
summative assessment.
h) Lying to the proctor regarding matters related to the summative assessment.
i) Methods and forms of cheating is not limited to the examples given above.
EXAMINATION AREA. The Examination Area includes all areas within the reach,
sight, and hearing of the Examinee. Students must clear the Examination Area of all
reference/resource materials. The proctor shall inspect the Examination Area prior to
the administration of the exam. Only the student taking the exam must be in the
Examination Area.

COME ON TIME. The student must be present in the SA link provided at least 15
minutes before the start of exam for the Orientation/Reminders.

DURING THE EXAM

1. Webcams must be kept on at all times showing the Examination Area. Audio
may be turned on or off as directed by the Instructor/Proctor.

2. The Final Summative Assessment must be completed in one sitting. The students
are not allowed to leave the Examination Area once the FSA has begun.
Otherwise, the student shall not be allowed to resume taking the exam, and the
FSA taken shall be considered as a valid examination attempt. Each exam has a
specific amount of time allotted and a specific number of questions. Exams must
be submitted within the time allotted before the online exam timer expires. Once
the timer expires, the student cannot continue answering the unanswered items.

3. DO NOT NAVIGATE away from the Final Summative Assessment site, NOR
OPEN other browser/s. The Exam settings are engaged to automatically end the
SA once you navigate away or when the timer ends.

4. The exam questions are sequential. Therefore, students can’t go back to the
previous number.

MODIFICATIONS IN THE AGREEMENT. The BDSAC reserves the right to


change, edit, amend, and update these terms and conditions at any time as deemed
necessary.

This signifies that I, (NAME OF STUDENT), have read, fully understood, and will
conform to the Guidelines set by the Biology Department Summative Assessment
Committee.
