home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts. Oliver W. H. I love Pakistan more than my own life because my existence has no value apart from it. I love it because I owe my life to it. If I have to give reasons for my love with Pakistan, I can say that it commands my love for being the land which begot me and which still sustains me. It is not surprising that a person loves his home and family. It is because he is bound to it with ties that are known and felt by every one of us. It is ungrateful to betray one’s benefactor. So I can never think of feeling anything except love for my country. The culture and civilization of this country is felt in my blood. What I am is very deeply connected with Pakistan and cannot be separated from it as a part of the body cannot be separated from it without bitter pain. The atmosphere around me is the outcome of centuries of development. I am proud of the culture heritage of Pakistan which sustains me and my countrymen. If I disown these bonds, nobody can be more ungrateful. As is remarked by someone, “More deadly than a serpent’s tooth is an ungrateful child.” There is another reason for my love with Pakistan. Since the decline of the Muslim rule in Indo-Pakistan, the Muslims had a very bad time. With the efforts of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, his friends and followers, the Muslims of that time realized their condition. Then under the inspiring leadership of the Quaid-e-Azam, they fought for the creation of Pakistan. Pakistan came into being in August 1947 for which we had to give great sacrifices. Millions of people lost their lives and homes. Such a dearly bought prize cannot be neglected. My love has immense depth for this reason too. Enriched with fascinating landscape, my country justifies my crazy love with it. It boasts of the scenic beauty that it possesses. We have the beautiful waterfalls, soothing lakes, mighty mountains, lush green valleys, snowcapped peaks and roaring rivers in the northern areas of our country. The three of the world’s biggest and most spectacular ranges, the Himalaya, the Karakoram, the Hindukush enhance its natural beauty. With the height of 8,611 metres, the world’s second highest mountain, K2, is the irresistible attraction for the tourists all over the world. We love Pakistan not because it has imposing and beautiful buildings, or it has vast tracts of fertile land and gardens, or it abounds with fine places of natural scenery. All these things are possessed by other countries of the world, perhaps in a better measure and on a grander scale. We love Pakistan because of its men. Men in the real sense of the word make or unmake nations. The Pakistanis are generous, caring and upright in their dealings. There are many other Pakistani girls and boys like me. All those gems need, is a little bit of polishing. Arfa Karim My Pakistan is a piece of land where I can practise my religious values freely and uninterruptedly. I can call for the prayer, offer the prayer, slaughter heifer in the name of Allah, and build a mosque for the Muslim community. My country also respects the rights of the minorities. They are allowed to follow their teachings the way they want. Diversity of culture is another element making my country loveable. From Karachi to Khyber, many ethnic groups are to be seen: Punjabis, Sindhis, Baloch, Pashtuns, Kashmiris, Hazaras, Makranis, and Baltis. Variety of culture and lifestyle of each group beautifies our country to a greater extent. Since they are so versatile and captivating, they are likely to attract not only locals but also foreigners. My Pakistan is a gateway to Islam in sub-continent. This is the land where Muhammad Bin Qasim brought the torch of Islam and where the great Mughals ruled for centuries. It is dear to me also for the sacrifices made by our ancestors to win this homeland. We had to struggle hard to liberate it from the clutches of the English imperialists and prejudiced Hindus. Our brave soldiers like Major Aziz Bhatti shed their blood to protect this land from the evil designs of the aggressors. Every handful of its dust is mixed with the blood of these martyrs. The bones of our illustrious ancestors are buried in this country and make this land sacred to us. This is my homeland, no one can kick me out. Yasser Arafat Nature too seems to be adorable with my Pakistan. My country has been blessed with four weather seasons. It has summer to let us enjoy bathing in the swimming pool; it has autumn to let us fill with nostalgia for past days; it has winter allowing us to enjoy dry-fruit, grill fish, cozy jackets and sunbath; it has spring to soothe us with lush greenery and flowery scents in air; it has rainy season to let us plunge into romanticism. I love Pakistan also because of its interest in my well-being. It is only in Pakistan that I enjoy full security of life, prosperity and honour. I can buy here any kind of property, establish any kind of business, or join any government service. It is only in Pakistan that I enjoy the right to vote and can stand as a candidate for any office, even of the President of Pakistan. The rights and liberties available to me in this country cannot be guaranteed by any other government under the sun. Last but not least there are a few things in my country that I take pride in. my country excels in a number of fields. Hardly is there any area where my country has not made its presence felt positively. In academics, sports, military exercises, literature, science and technology, and music, my Pakistan has created innumerable celebrities. It has earned me a bright name in the whole world. Pakistan not only means freedom and independence but the Muslim Ideology which has to be preserved, which has come to us as a precious gift and treasure and which, we hope other will share with us.
