● Barron’s GRE word list for Precis MCQs

Islamiat​:

● An Introduction to Islam by Dr. Hamidullah (selective chapters such as social system,


economic system, women rights)
● O level Islamiat by Farkhanda Noor Muhammad (do articles of faith, pillars of Islam and
lifetime of the Holy Prophet pbuh
● Caravan Islamic Studies by Hafiz Karim Dad Chughtai (use only for outline and to
structure your answers)
● Use the internet for Ayat and to read good articles on topics

Pakistan Affairs

● Trek to Pakistan by Ahmed Saaed (for pre-partition)


● Pakistan: A New History by Ian Talbot (for post-partition)
● If you have the time—read a few chapters from Christophe Jaffrelot’s ​Pakistan Paradox
(only a few chapters and that too if you have time. Chapters such as the post 1990s era,
terrorism)

Current Affairs

● Dawn newspaper (read daily)


● Foreign Affairs magazine (a few days per month)
● Al Jazeera (one or two days per week)
● Use websites such as Brookings Institution and Council for Foreign Relations
o These are think tanks and they publish good articles on major global issues

Note: Do not spend more than half an hour on the newspaper every day. Read selective topics
from all above sources

General Science and Ability

● No books
● Use Google and Youtube, and websites such as Khan Academy
● For general ability—use the website indiabix.com

Economics

● Principles of Microeconomics by Mankiw


● Principles of Macroeconomics by Mankiw
● Macroeconomics by Bernanke (only 2 chapters)
● Development Economics by Tadaro ( a few chapters)
● Issues in Pakistan’s Economy by Akbar Zaidi (for paper II)
● Read contemporary issues like trade deficit, etc for paper II online
