Word problems on H.C.F. and L.C.M.

Math
Class: VI

Concept:-
Example 1) Let us find the H.C.F. and L.C.M. of 50 and 75 by the prime factorization
method.
The prime factors of 50 = 2 × 5 × 5 =21×52
The prime factors of 75 = 3 × 5 × 5=31×52
The common factors of 50 and 75 are 5 × 5. Thus, HCF of (50, 75) = 25.
L.C.M. =21× 31×52=2 × 3 × 5 × 5= 150
Example 2:- 75 and 2500
Prime factors of 75 = 3 × 5 × 5 =31 × 52
Prime factors 2500 = 2 × 2 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 =22× 54
H.C.F. = 5 × 5 =25
L.C.M. = 22× 31 ×54 =2 × 2 × 3 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5

Question 1

Question 2

1
Solution:-
Width of first piece of cloth = 68 inches
Width of second piece of cloth = 96 inches
Width of strips that are equal in width and as wide as possible = H.C.F of 68 and 96=4
inches
Factors of 68=17 × 2 ×2
Factors of 96=2 × 2 ×2 × 2 ×2 × 3
H.C.F. =2 × 2 = 4
