INTEGRATED SCIENCE MODULE 2 TEST

1. How does an observation differ from inference on a certain object?

- The difference between observation and inference is that observation is based on
perception, while inference is based on assumptions.
2. How does a law differ from a theory?
- Laws describe observed phenomena, but do not explain their causes or why they exist.
Theories explain phenomena.
3. Differentiate the following:
3.1 Qualitative observation vs. Quantitative observation
3.2 Dependent variable vs. Independent variable
3.3 Correlation vs. Causation
3.1 A qualitative observation is an observation that looks at a specific aspect of
something, such as its texture, color, or shape, without counting or measuring. A
quantitative observation is an observation that uses a standardized scale to
measure something.
3.2 A dependent variable is a variable whose value is dependent on another
variable, while an independent variable does not depend on another variable.
3.3 Causation is a cause and effect relationship between a single variable and
another variable, while correlation is a relationship between two variables, when
one variable changes, the other also changes.
