Inform Description
ation
Eje The Coffee Region is a region of Colombia that extends through the
cafetero departments of Quindío, Caldas and Risaralda, with their respective capitals:
Armenia, Manizales and Pereira.
But these big cities are not the tourist attraction of the area. If not the
architecture of its colorful little towns, its coffee culture and its mountainous
landscapes of wax palms. Not for nothing these landscapes have been
declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011.
Means For us, the best way to get around El Cafetero is by public transport. It is
of economical, ecological and works well. Between the most important cities
transpor such as Armenia, Pereira and Manizales and the towns you can transport
tation yourself in "buses". And in Salento and surroundings the best will be the
shared "Wiillys".
If you are traveling in a group, you may find it worthwhile to rent a car as
soon as you arrive in Pereira/Manizales/Armenia. It can also be a good
alternative if you are looking for absolute freedom on your trip.
Activitie The best thing about the Coffee Region, as we mentioned above, are its little
s to do towns dotted with colors and its unique and incomparable landscapes.
Therefore, everything that we recommend you to visit in this area has to do
with the previous premises.
What to do in Salento?
The best thing you can do in Salento is to walk through its streets! A good
idea is to start on its main street: Calle Real, and lose yourself in the following
ones following your intuition.
-Go through the little streets of Filandia. If you are staying in Salento, then
there is nothing better than taking a “Willy” to visit this little town. It is
located about 30 minutes from Salento and is a perfect day trip.
The Cocora Valley, together with the small town of Salento, is the most visited
site in the Coffee Region. The main reason? Its forest of Palms.
Precisely the variety found here are the "Palmas de Cera". A unique species,
present only in Colombia. Where each specimen can reach up to 65 meters in
height.
Finca Hotel Mundo Nuevo, is where we stayed and we still remember the
amazing breakfasts and views!
Hostal Tralala Salento, a good option for backpackers in the center of town.
Kawa Mountain Retreat, for those who want to treat themselves.
Typical The delicious typical food of the Coffee Region is nothing more than the
Foods: peasant food from centuries ago that decided to stay at home forever. In this
regard, modernity may bring us gourmet dishes and magnificent
Mediterranean or Oriental preparations, but the paisa gastronomic menu, in
turn indebted to the Spanish colony inherited centuries ago and passed down
from family to family, leads the daily preparations. There is the sancocho,
paisa tray, mondogo, heated paisa, arepa, sweaty, among much more.
