LISSA’S NEW FRIEND

I so much remember the feeling of pain, the need for food or water; but now years just keep
passing by as if it didn’t matter anymore. We didn’t like talking about what happened that day, the
day we turned into this, the day we couldn’t see our parents anymore and just got stuck in this
wretched place. I missed my mommy and the way she would cook us breakfast before school
and as hard as to believe I even missed school. Even though lots of kids didn’t like school I loved
learning new things, talking with my friends and even to the teachers. On the other hand, my little
brother Georgie hated school, he didn’t like getting up at all in the morning, I don’t blame him after
all he’s only eight. Fare well as I was the oldest, I would always look after Georgie, we would
always play in the forest while mom and dad took care of the old lady and her mansion, as you
can tell they worked for her. Mom worked as a maid looking after the old lady and dad was a
gardener, we lived in a smaller house beside the mansion, and it was fantastic until the bad thing
happened.

From the distance I saw a car approaching the abandoned mansion, Georgie rushed towards me
yelling: “Lissa, someone’s bought the old mansion. I’ve got great news; I saw a girl around your
age, maybe she can be your friend if she likes your smell”. Said Georgie has he fell onto the
ground laughing. A girl my age? That was indeed very good news, almost seventy years, far long
time talking only to my brother, I so much loved the idea of a new friend. Later I found out that her
name was Diana, she was eleven and had a Golden dog.

I would always follow her in silence as she toured that old place, I was determined to talk to her
one way or another. Obviously, Georgie didn’t agree with this because the rules prohibited us
from talking to people, those rules that nobody told us about, the ones that just appeared in our
heads after the bad thing happened.

A day came when Georgie as usual went out to catch frogs and wasn’t beside me, I took the
chance and went straight to Diana’s front door, knocked and as it widely opened a tall skinny man
introduced himself as Diana’s father. He let me into his home and there was Diana, after then and
on we became close, day by day she was becoming like a diary, a confidant, my best friend. By
this point Georgie was upset because he knew about me breaking the rules and said that he felt
deep in his bones that something bad was going to happen. That day the bad thing happened we
as usual were playing in the forest on our secret hide out, but Georgie fell to the ground and hurt
his ancle, so I carried him towards the mansion where mommy was supposed to be working
unfortunately, we bumped into the old lady. She started screaming at the top of her lungs at us
and chased after us, she locked us up in a secret room and never let us out. I remember waking
up one day and noticing that we were no longer in that horrible house but outside the mansion, in
the forest where we used to hangout. We ran towards our home, I wanted to see mom and dad
but when we got there, they had already left, “They left us!” Cried Georgie. “No!” I yelled back,
they will soon come back for us, they never did.

Almost seventy years have passed since the bad thing happened, Diana doesn’t suspect a thing
and we will always be stuck in this old piece of land.
