AS SHAFI (The one who cures)

Allah swt gives healing and he cures, it is solely in his hands to cure whoever, however and whenever
he wills. There is wisdom in it.

The name is not mentioned in Quran but his attribute of healing is mentioned and the name is
mentioned in Sunnah.

As Shafi means one who gives shifa shafa- literal meaning to rise shifa is recovery and healing from
illness free from disease.

Disease is not just related to the body we also have a soul and their both deeply connected.

Allah is the one who heals all types of diseases of the body, heart, mind.

Allah alone is as shafi no one can heal except the healing that is given from Allah.

The disease can only go away only when Allah removes it.

When you are afflicted with some harm you call upon him and he removes it.

Surah Anam ayah 17.

We fall ill due to our own errors, negligence, mistakes.

Diseases of heart- jealousy, hatred, extreme biasness etc. Mind- doubts constant questioning

ALLAH swt is able to heal with and without means.

Surah Maryam ayah 7-9. Zakariya a.s story- healed without means

Yaqub a.s became blind but when yusuf a.s sent his shirt he was able to see -healed without means

Ali ra was suffering from eye infection Muhammad saw applied his saliva and made dua and was
healed

A child was burnt prophet saw rubbed his saliva on the burns and recited the dua and he was healed.

A group of companions were once travelling and stayed with few people and their leader got bitten
by a snake and this group recited surah Fatiha and the man was cured.

All above healed simply by dua

Another companion complained of severe pain and prophet saw gave him a dua to say and he was
healed

Medicines doctors can be means but not the source of healing. The healing is not in the means.

Allah swt has sent no disease except that Allah has sent also its shifa.

O slaves seek treatment because Allah has sent shifa for all disease.

Remedy for every disease, when applied healed by the permission of Allah swt.

Ayyub a.s suffered for 18 years.

MEANS OF HEALING
1. DUA benefits against what has already happened and what will happen. Most important means
to seek healing from Allah swt.

2. QURAN – Allah described it as shifa Surah Younus ayah 57 ,Surah isra ayah 82 ,surah fusilat ayah
43. Prophet saw recite Muawaidhat, blow on his hand. Surah Fatiha also called shifa, Surah
Baqarah is blessed. Its shifa for heart and body.

3. DHIKR OF ALLAH: When slave remembers Allah then Allah remembers him. Means of inviting
mercy of Allah. Surah raad ayah 28 Unquestionably it is in the remembrance of Allah that
hearts find peace. When a woman came to prophet saw and complained that she was suffering
from physical exhaustion due to lot of work at home he replied saying that go to bed saying
subhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulilah 33 times, Allahuakbar 34 times this will cure fatigue.
Prophet saw also mentioned that if someone is very afraid of darkness of night say
sunhannalahi wa bi hamdihi and for joint pain prophet saw said sadaqah is due from every bone
in the body in the morning and tasbeeh is a sadaqah. Allah mentions in the Quran Honey- shifa
for people, Zamzam is for the purpose of what you consume. Blacks seeds shifa for every ailment
except for death. Cupping/Hijama. Khust it’s a herb a woman brought her child to prophet saw
and applied something to her throat to suppress swelling prophet saw said to use khust. Talbina
gives rest to the heart of the patient, comfort rest narrated by Aisha ra, Sadaqah

WHAT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY?

1. We must believe that Allah is As Shafi. That healing cure comes from him alone. No matter
what ailment Allah is shafi. The real source of cure is in the hands of the creator of the
disease that is ALLAH. Doctors, medicines cannot fix you only ALLAH CAN FIX YOU, DISEASE
COMES BY HIS PERMISSION AND GOES AWAYBY HIS PERMISSION.
E.g., Younus a.s trapped in fish and very sad he said la ilaha ila anta subhanaka inni kuntu
minaz zalimin and Allah says that he responded and rescued him.
When a person helps others Allah helps them, striving to fulfil the need of his brother and
Allah will help him.
Do not use incorrect ways of seeking shifa i.e., unlawful. Abdullah bin masuds ra wife Zainab
ra was told by her husband that prophet saw said Spells, charms, love potions are shirk and
then Zainab ra said she would go for eye infection to a person who would apply spell on your
eye and he replied saying devil was poking your eye so that you would go to them and they
would use spell on you. Prophet saw warned to not use impure unlawful things for
treatment.
Upon using alcohol for healing prophet saw said in it is not healing there is ailment their
cannot be healing in something that Allah swt has prohibited as shifa comes from him.
No matter disease , duration, how painfull we must think good of allah has he is as shafi ,
think good of Allah swt as Allah says I am as my servant thinks of me. Think good and expect
good from Allah swt , trust allah swt decree there is wisdom in it . Even the prophets of Allah
suffered from sickness, part of being human , life in this world benefit through pain we can
identify something is wrong and when its identified it can be removed in it is purification
Our job is not to find reason whether Allah is punishing , warning or purifying me i.e Allah
swt knowledge. My job is to think good abot allah turn to Allah as shafi, thank him ,
remeberber, seek forgiveness help refuge in him. Ultimately that is all that matters. If
 through our pains we have introspected and identified our sins and turn to Allah that is
excellent. Let us trust him, seek help from ash shafi make it a means to get closer to him and
leave our sins. Ultimately our relationship with Allah swt matters most.
