Lab Objective: User Interface Re-design of an existing Interactive

software product Using User-Centered Development &
Methodology

Lab Overview
For this course you will undertake a group project (4 students) The lab consists of
multiple sections The product (system) will include some computing related tasks,
to develop interface design for the tasks, to implement a prototype of your design,
and to evaluate your design. The lab will include using various Processes, Methods
and creating a Design Portfolio (from ideas to a proof a concept design solution)

Lab Description:
At the end of week 7, you should submit your design portfolio for lab 1 including: 
A short description of the website/application you selected and why select this
website/ application. At the end of Lab 1, you should create a design portfolio
which includes the following:

 Heuristics evaluation, you should be able to identify a minimum of 10

usability problems. 
 Paper prototype and or a storyboard. You draw the paper prototype
 Then describe Persona, differentiate between primary and secondary
persona. You should find between 3- 5 personas.
 User journey map for your one primary and one secondary persona.

For this Lab, and the two others (Lab 2 and Lab 3), you must form a team of 4
members and then identify the name of existing application software product
(system) that you will be working on. You should create also your group on
blackboard to share documents, and early draft of the final Lab 1 design portfolio,

Lab Ideas/Topics:
The idea and topic of this lab is about the usability assessment for user Interface
quality of a website and related mobile application that provides the tourists with a
useful tourism information such as accommodation, restaurants, attractions to
visit, things to do, weather information, etc. You need to think as a Tourist who
would like to visit an emirate whom he/she has never visited before. As you know,
Tourists need to find out some tourism information in advance about the emirate to
help them have a great and pleasant experience, so one good source for this
information is a website (Tourism Information Center) dedicated for providing you
with all tourism information about the emirate. Here are the official websites for
the tourism Information sources for each of the seven emirates in UAE. The

Lab 1 will provide you with an opportunity for applying the 10 Heuristics usability
principles covered in class to evaluate the quality of the user interface design for
the tourism website, here are some aspects of the website need to consider, home
page, navigation and interactivity, information architecture, usability and
accessibility, media and visual elements used, then you need to complete a design
portfolio summarizing iteration 1 of the design project for lab 1 including a paper
prototype, heuristics evaluation as well as user journey maps and persona. Your
paper prototype should include the Website and mobile applications versions of the
tourism information website for the emirate you have chosen from the above list.

Submission:
At the end of week 7 of the semester you need to submit an electronic copy of the
lab report. The lab 1 design portfolio (report) can be documented using word,
or PowerPoint. Then you need to upload your lab 1 report on BB.
