SEEKING THE LORD

READ 2 Chronicles 1:1-12
MEMORISE: And Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the Lord, which was at the
tabernacle of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it (2 Chronicles 1:6).

EXPOSITION
We often marvel at how Solomon chose wisdom over possessions; but do we notice how he sought
the LORD prior to the “famous” conversation in 2 Chronicles 1:7-12? While God fulfilled His promise
to David to use his son Solomon mightily, we witness from the Bible that at the early days of his
reign, Solomon was someone who was serious about his faith in God. He sought the LORD and was
therefore able to hear Him clearly. And responded honourably and exemplarily when the Almighty
spoke to him. The contrary happened when at the latter part of his reign, Solomon sought not after the
Lord, but after the desires of the many wives he had. According to 1 Kings 11, these wives turned
Solomon’s heart away from YAHWEH, and towards other gods, such as Ashtoreth and Milcom.
Seeking after God is not a natural way of life, even for the believer. Every single day, we have to
struggle with the help of God to overcome temptations, to tune our hearts towards the Almighty. If
you don’t tune your radio to a channel, you don’t get connected to whatever is going on there. Only
then can we hear Him clearly and live out the life He wants us to. Seeking after the Lord is not about
seeking after the dream that someday, God might say to us as He did to Solomon: Ask what I shall
give you (2 Chro. 1:7). Seeking after the Lord is about waiting upon Him throughout our lives, so that
when He does speak, we are ready to respond accordingly. That is the life of faith and obedience He
desires.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 196

PRAYER
1. Lord, help us to live a life of seeking after You.
2. Help us, Lord, to do all things in Your strength and with Your guidance.
3. Deliver us, O Lord, from things that draw us away from You.
Wednesday, March 8, 2023: Women’s Day Observance
NAKEDNESS IN TODAY’S WORLD (I)
READ LEVITICUS 18:1-18
MEMORISE: In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel with
propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing (1 Timothy
2:9).

EXPOSITION
Nakedness is being without clothes, or poorly clothed. It implies being unduly exposed. In the Bible,
it has the undertone of shame. Indecent dressing is as bad as nakedness. Our society has adopted the
pattern of dressing half-naked, all in the name of fashion—fashionmania. It is against the law of God
and simple morals that a lot have thrown to the winds, today. The unfortunate thing is that churches
aren’t left out of this modern-day trend that irks God. Nakedness in whatever form is serious
abomination to God. The cause of nakedness is worldliness and negative effect of civilisation. The sad
thing is that a lot of Christians are allowing the culture of the godless to mould their thoughts and
actions.
God doesn’t want our sensitive body parts exposed in public. Exposing your sensitive parts causes
defilement among men, and dishonours God. Having confessed Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you
have been bought with a price, and hence the temple of the Living God (1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19). The
implication of Christ being your personal Lord is that you can’t live your life the way you want it
anymore; it is Christ’s, and you must live it the way He pleases (Gal. 2:20).
God is so concerned about the issue of nakedness among His people that a substantial part of
Leviticus 18 is devoted to warning against uncovering one’s nakedness or those of others, anyhow.
So, showing your nakedness to those who shouldn’t see it, i.e. anybody aside your spouse, is nothing
but madness to God, notwithstanding what the modern-day culture of ‘nothing-spoils,’ ‘anything-
goes,’ or ‘the world does that’ says about it. Remember: you can’t use your body the way you like it,
if you are truly born again (1 Cor. 6:17ff).

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Sanctify my heart, O Lord, so that this would reflect in the way I comport myself in terms of
dressing and outings.
2. Pray against the spirit of Jezebel (fashion-craze) in our churches, most especially among our
so-called socialite/elite youths.
3. Pray that the Light of God will illuminate the hearts of every believer so that we can keep
glorifying God in our bodies and dressing.

Thursday, March 9, 2023:
NAKEDNESS IN TODAY’S WORLD (II)
READ EXODUS 28:42-43
MEMORISE: I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave
Himself for me (Galatians 2:20).

EXPOSITION
Today, people of the world call it body positivity. They say that you can expose your sensitive body
parts as much as it makes you look good. Yet, they have forgotten, or they chose to deliberately shove
it aside that looking good to man doesn’t make one look good before his Creator, and he who looks
good before man but looks otherwise to God would have himself to blame in the end when he faces
the music of his foolishness, with none of those he has looked good to, to bail him out.
In our Scripture reading for today, God instructed Moses to make for the priests linen trousers to
cover their nakedness; they shall reach from the waist to the thighs (Exod. 28:42). In contemporary
parlance, Make linen shorts for them that reach from the waist down to the thigh, so they won't
expose themselves (CEV). Why? Even God hates carelessly or deliberately exposing oneself that He
warned the priests, Nor shall you go up by steps to My altar, that your nakedness may not be
exposed on it (Exod. 20:26).
When you put on dresses that make you look like a harlot or rascal, you grieve the Holy Spirit through
whom you have been saved, since you are no longer yours, in terms of living life (Gal. 2:20).
Sadly, lots of youths are being molested, raped, gang-raped and abused because of their
indecent/illicit dressing. Indecent dressing is an instrument of seduction that can even make the elect
to fall. The danger is that the causer of such fall is doomed (read Lk. 17:1,2). Illicit dressing is
forbidden by God, and attract His judgment. Encounter with the Holy Spirit will produce both inward
(invisible) and outward (visible) changes. Repent, and let your wardrobe repent, as well.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Holy Spirit, help to conform my wardrobe and dressing to the standard of Your holiness.
2. Lord, help me to live my life for You, according to the standard of Gal. 2:20.
3. Lord, help our ministers with the nerve to deal with the devil/menace of indecent dressing in
churches today.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 816

Tuesday, March 21, 2023: World Down Syndrome Day
SUFFICIENT GRACE
READ 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
MEMORISE: And he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect
in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

If there is anything people want to hide from their fellow humans, it is their weaknesses. In any
sporting contest, especially in wrestling, boxing and football events, contenders do take pleasure to
research and study hard to know the weaknesses (unguarded spots or areas of vulnerability) of their
opponents, so that they may overrun them and win. The devil is a master schemer who uses people’s
weaknesses during their sufferings, disappointments, sicknesses, diseases like Down Syndrome that
the world is discussing issues about, today, disasters, persecutions, business, or exam failures and
financial lack, among others, to make them focus on the wrongs rather than appreciating the sufficient
grace of God they enjoy.
The Corinthian brethren were enriched in all utterances and knowledge so that they come behind in
no gift (1 Cor. 1:4-7). Yet, they had problems with self-reliance and boasting, which were addressed
in Paul’s first and second epistles. The reference to a thorn in the side of Paul, of which he prayed
God thrice but was told, My grace is sufficient for you, is a strong message to the Corinthian
Christians and every believer, today, that we are not expected to rely on ourselves, on anything we
enjoy or are deprived of, but solely on God [who] is able to make all grace abound toward you, that
you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work (2
Cor. 9:8).
Of what sort, is your boasting today as a Christian? A spiritual or ministerial gift, knowledge, or
position (secular or sacred)? Always acknowledge the sufficient grace of God that has enriched you.
Don’t run the risk of getting prideful.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB

PRAYER POINTS:
1. O Lord God, make me humble to always enjoy Your sufficient grace over my weaknesses.
2. Lord, deliver me from the pride that blinds one from the workings of Your grace in my life.
3. Lord, deliver brethren who are gifted in the vocal ministry (preaching, music, etc.) from
arrogating their successes to expertise.
Sunday, April 23, 2023: World Book and Copyright Day
FULFILLING THE SCRIPTURE
READ Matthew 5:17-20
MEMORISE: And He began to say to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”
(Luke 4:21).

EXPOSITION
On this year’s World Book and Copyright Day, it is worth the while to talk about the world’s greatest
Book—the Bible, God’s Word. The Scripture is God’s inspired Word. Despite the fact that it took up
many years by forty different compilers/writers to put the whole Bible together, there is no
contradiction, whatsoever. The Old Testament does not contradict the New Testament, because the
former points to the latter while the latter complements, completes and fulfils the former.
When Jesus Christ came, He made it known that He was not emerging to destroy the law and the
prophets (Matt. 5:17). As Jesus Christ is seen in the Pentateuch, He appears in the historical books,
poetical books as well as the Major and Minor Prophets. Therefore He remains the fulfilment of the
entire Scripture. Jesus Christ’s entire life and ministry is in the unification and fulfilment of God’s
plan of redemption. What implication does this convey? Activities we undertake in Christendom
should all reflect the fulfilment of all righteousness of the Scripture.
Always remember that the life you are living is fulfilling Scripture. Just be very care lest you be
fulfilling it negatively. When Judas was aligning with the Chief Priest and other leaders of the Jews in
Christ’s days, it is very likely he didn’t take to cognisance the fact that he was negatively fulfilling
Scripture (cf. Psa. 41:9). Every disobedient child is fulfilling Scripture as regarding the end-time.
Coming late to church services is a fulfilment of Scripture. Be very careful the way you live your life.
You are writing history and fulfilling Scripture (cf. 1 Cor. 10:11). Will you be happy to read the
history you are writing with your life now, or listen to it being read, later in life? Beware!
Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, assist me to always live and behave in conformity with the Scripture.
2. Lord, help me to never fulfil the Scripture negatively throughout my life.
3. Lord, help Your Church in the land to be more interested in

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 457

Tuesday, April 25, 2023: World Malaria Day
IDENTIFY THE ENEMY BY NAME
Read Mark 9:25
MEMORISE: When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean
spirit, saying to it, "Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no
more!" (Mark 9:25).

EXPOSITION
When there is chaos or pandemonium, we often embark on blame game; we apportion blames here
and there, which may result in disasters. Sometimes, what causes misunderstanding might be so
minute or insignificant; something that might have been resolved amicably. Sometimes, we wonder
how it escalated and brought about the unexpected destruction of properties and loss of lives. Satan is
the architect of every evil—the only enemy of peace. He started it from heaven. He has been a
destroyer from the beginning. He has his pranks and schemes that we must watch out for, so as not to
become his prey. The Bible says that he roars like a lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8).
May we not be his victim. Amen.
Therefore, we should beware whenever there is little misunderstanding between two persons or
among many. Satan initiated it. We should stop it before it becomes uncontrollable. Rebuke the devil;
he will flee. We have dominion over the devil. God has given us that power. We should not be afraid
to demonstrate it. Jesus did it when He rebuked that unclean spirit, and it immediately came out of the
man (Mk. 9:25). Do not let us dillydally with the devil, but rebuke him. When we do this, we are
exercising our right over the only intruder, Satan. The enemies may be sickness, marital challenges,
joblessness, family tussles, generational curses or what have you. Identify them by name and rebuke
them in the name of Jesus Christ (Lk. 8:29). For instance, you might be battling with malaria on this
year’s World Malaria Day; identify and rebuke it, now!
Our victory is certain because our Lord Jesus Christ has given us power over unclean spirits (enemies)
(Mk. 6:7). At His name, every enemy is subdued and defeated (Php. 2:10).

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, give me the spirit to identify the enemies in my life.
2. Every enemy that may disguise in form of sickness, challenges or curses, be rebuked, in Jesus’
name.
3. Let all the enemies of the gospel be subdued and defeated, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB

Saturday, April 29, 2023: International Dance Day
HE FEEDS THE BIRDS
READ Matthew 6:26-34
MEMORISE: Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet
your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (Matthew 6:26)

EXPOSITION
Lack of total obedience to God is as disastrous as intentionally facing a high speeding train! When
God says something, He means it (Num. 23:19). Jesus unequivocally declares that we need not worry
about the needless anxieties that have saturated the world (v. 32). If God says, “Do not worry, don’t
be anxious, don’t get yourself worked up, and don’t be troubled,” He says that because He knows
what to do next. Storms never move Him (Matt. 8:26). The songwriter of “How Great Thou Art”
reminds us of the character of fowls. According to reliable sources, the writer actually went into the
woods to study the nature. He said, “When through the woods and forest glades I wander, and hear the
birds sing sweetly in the trees…” (Stanza 2, CAC GHB Various 015). Watch and observe these
creatures, early in the morning, they start singing. No sorrowing or dull moment. You won’t find them
still in their nests in the early hours. They ‘trust’ God to feed them
Dearly beloved, if God miraculously feeds the soulless birds whose lives amount less than humans’,
He would do more for you, if you obediently trust Him. Stop troubling yourself on things outside your
control. When situations are beyond your control, pass the burden to the One more than capable to
shoulder it. Free yourself up of the luggage of depression! (Psa. 55:22) The Bible warns that you
shouldn’t be anxious for anything; pray, and with thanksgiving, let your request be known to God
(Phil. 4:6). You will be surprised the way He would turn your morning into dancing. Of course, today
is International Dance Day.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 15

PRAYER
1. Lord, teach me to daily cast my burdens on You, until I gain ultimate victory over worry.
2. Lord, enable me to have total trust in You, the Jehovah Jireh.
3. Lord, give Your Church victory over the spirit of worry that leads to ungodliness, error and
rivalry.

WEAPON OF SELF-DESTRUCTION (I)
READ Numbers 16:8-19
MEMORISE: Therefore you and all your company are gathered together against the Lord. And
what is Aaron that you complain against him? (Numbers 16:11)

Spiritual high-mindedness is one of the weapons of self-destruction common among Christians and
more pronounced among the Gospel preachers everywhere. To be high-minded, spiritually speaking,
is to exercise a pretentious highly characterised moral principle and feelings that are nothing but
archaic arrogance or haughtiness. And what were Korah, Dathan, Abiram, On and 250 leaders of the
congregation crying about in Num. 16:1-3? They wanted the priesthood office and Aaron’s title too!
Moses warned them against self-destruction (v. 11).
High-mindedness is the selfish but self-destroying pursuit of empty glory (Matt. 23:5-6). It is a
provocation of an envious and bitter spirit of rivalry in oneself because of the gifts and graces
recognised in others that pushes one to want to frustrate such (cf. 1 Sam. 18:8-11,17). Often, a high-
minded person is characterised by an unhealthy stand-out personality among the crowd, a gleaning for
compliments and rewards by means of self-promotion, enjoying flattery, and the display of
unwillingness to acknowledge his ignorance, inability, limitations, faults, weaknesses, and sins.
Instead, he prefers the pursuance of such a public performance for recognition and applause, a holding
to the preferential seat at the top, doing all things except serving in unseen or menial ways (Prov.
27:2). Do all or any of these speak of you—these devil’s bait, or weapon for self-destruction?
Beloved, search yourself (2 Cor. 13:5). Mortify them with true repentance and forsaking. Any
professing believer in Christ having such high-mindedness has no place in His kingdom (2 Cor. 8.8-9;
Php. 2.5-11).

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB

PRAYER POINTS:
1. O Lord my God, deliver me from the clutches of self-destruction.
2. Pray vehemently against the spirit of pride/arrogance in your life.
3. Help leaders you know to pray against the self-destroying spirit of pride.
Wednesday, May 31, 2023: World No-Tobacco Day
WEAPON OF SELF-DESTRUCTION (II)
READ Genesis 13:10-13
MEMORISE: Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits" (1 Corinthians 15:33).

We are affected by those with whom we associate. Children who see physical violence between their
parents and probably also brutalised by such parents are more likely to abuse their own siblings,
spouses and children, later in life. Most saddening, the waves of societal behavioural malady among
teenagers and youths, even in churches, are alarming, today. Alas, the devil has taken the driver’s seat
of many who profess salvation, masquerading in the keeping of bad companies.
Immediately, Mr Lot, Abram’s nephew, settled in the cities of the plain, pitching his tent as far as
Sodom whose men were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD, the destroyer (Satan)
launched the campaign to wreck his home; his sons-in-law perished in the heat of Sodom and
Gomorrah’s destruction; his wife became a pillar of salt; and his two husbandless surviving daughters
lured him into incest (Gen. 19:12ff). The Scripture warns, Walk with the wise and become wise, for a
companion of fools suffers harm (Prov. 13:20).
A very strong specialised weapon of destruction the devil uses is the keeping of bad companies under
the guise of freedom of choices. Evil company has led many into terrible things like smoking tobacco,
weed and the like. Thank God today is World No-Tobacco Day. Paul warns, Stand fast, therefore, in
the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage
(Gal. 5:1). Dear reader, keeping an evil company after professing salvation is a bait of the devil
against your soul. Do not walk a path even the holy angels dare not tread. Check who you befriend
(Prov. 18:24)!

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB

PRAYER POINTS:
1. In Jesus’ name, I receive deliverance from the company of evil people.
2. Lord, protect my children against evil companies/communications.
3. Pray that God should liberate children who have been entrapped in evil gangs.

SUCCESS IN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD (I)
READ 1 KINGS 17:9-14
MEMORISE: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall
be added to you (Matthew 6:33).

EXPOSITION
The secret of success in our relationship with God lies in adhering to the principle of putting first
things first. This principle works in every sector of life. It is an unbroken and a proven law of success
in life and relationship with God. Our very relevant example here is the obedience of the widow of
Zarephath to Prophet Elijah’s instruction. The woman could have done otherwise with seemingly
genuine reason, yet she decided to serve the man of God first before her boy and herself. She thanked
God she did.
There are truths you should know about this God of ours. Firstly, He is not wicked. He knows your
present challenges. He feels our sufferings and pains; He has suffered like us (Heb. 2:18; 4:15). He
only wants you to shift your eyes from your suffering on Him alone. Secondly, God is all-knowing.
He knows all your needs even before you ask Him (Matt. 6:8). He is ever-ready to meet your needs,
He only demands that you meet His own needs first (Php. 4:15-19). Praise to God for the widow’s
humility and obedience to God’s servant, which paid her. Finally, God is a loving Father to us. He
likes to see us living better and comfortable lives. He wants to satisfy you, but He wants you to serve
and satisfy Him first (Prov. 3:9-10). If you put the things of God first and prioritises Him in your life,
He will meet all your needs (Matt. 6:33-34; Php. 4:19).

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Give me the grace, O Lord, to maintain my relationship with You.
2. I make a strong decision today to prioritise God in my life, in Jesus’ name.
3. Pray for bachelors and spinsters among us to put God first in their lives before they enter into
marriage.
Monday, June 19, 2023: Day of the African Child
SUCCESS IN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD (II)
READ 1 SAMUEL 2:18-21
MEMORISE: And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, "The Lord give you descendants
from this woman for the loan that was given to the Lord." Then they would go to their own home
(1 Samuel 2:20).

EXPOSITION
Success in our relationship with God is enhanced by being sensitive enough to meet God’s important
demands. Hannah’s petition to God refers. The content is challenging. As a barren woman, looking
for the fruit of the womb, she was so specific in her request. She asked for a male child with a vow
that if God would answer her prayer, the child would be in God’s presence all his life (1 Sam. 1:11).
God’s urgent need then was a man who would replace Eli as the priest and judge of His people. After
the prayer and vow to return the child to God, God answered her prayer, giving her the bouncing baby
boy, Samuel. She never rescinded on her vow, thanks to the support from her husband, Elkanah. God
accepted Hannah’s redeemed vow and later consecrated the God-fearing Samuel as priest and the last
judge in Israel. God later replenished Hannah with other wonderful children after she had given Him
her first born to meet His demand (1 Sam. 2:20-21). Our relationship with God grows stronger and
stronger when we live our lives to meet His demands through obedience. We also receive answers to
our prayers if our motives for such align with His purpose.
That woman who anointed Jesus unknowingly met the demand for the Lord’s burial beforehand
(Matt. 26:6-12). The woman became immortalised because of what she did (v. 13). Always seek the
direction of the Holy Spirit to do the right thing at the right time. Learn to give God your best as and
when needed.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, give me the sensibility to pray the right prayer at the right time.
2. Lord, help me to love what You love and hate all You hate.
3. Help us all, O Lord, to live our lives to fulfil Your will.
Friday, June 30, 2023: International Asteroid Day
DON’T MAKE IRREVERSIBLE MISTAKES
READ Matthew 27:1-10
Memorise: The Son of man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom
the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born
(Matthew 26:24).

EXPOSITION
Anyone can make mistakes, hence the more reason care should be taken before any or every decision
is made, to avoid the disaster that this usually brings upon the society.
Many are the unpardonable mistakes of mortals throughout the ages, and in all climes. A combined
example is Eve hearkening to the serpent, and Adam obeying the voice of his wife, Eve. Didn’t Moses
mistaken strike the rock (not knowing he was striking the Rock of Ages) the second time, because of
unbridled anger? King David arrogantly counted the Israelites at the instigation of Satan. What about
the supposed wise men from the east, who abandoned their guiding star and straying into the palace of
the envious King Herod, and striking a deal with him? The greatest, most terrible and regrettable of it
all is the betrayal of Immanuel (Jesus Christ) by Judas Iscariot who, worst of all, committed suicide.
The Lord Jesus Christ Himself confirmed this (Matt. 26:24). Of course, there are mistakes that can be
terribly and irreversibly damning and deadly. Beware of such damning mistakes (errors) that hurt the
soul.
Dabbling into occultism, divining, palm-reading, consulting with the dead, and loving the world are
ways of terribly forsaking one's Maker. Shortcut to wealth through yahoo and blood-money rituals
irks God extremely. The godless attitudes of Gehazi and Demas also refer. Be warned! (1 Tim. 6:6-
10ff; 1 Jn. 2:15-19.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 805.

Prayer Points:
1. Thank God for His readiness to help you amend your past mistakes in life, marriage, career
and ministry.
2. Ask God sincerely for His forgiveness.
3. Pray for His help to make amends. In Jesus’ name.
Wednesday, September 27, 2023: World Tourism Day
TORMENTED IN FLAME
READ LUKE 16:19-25
MEMORISE: Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the
wicked (Proverbs 10:6).

EXPOSITION
Though riches and wealth are part of what makes life sweet and suitable for living, yet those who get
theirs in an ungodly manner would end up in great torment with their celebrations. While many
godless rich people travel around the world, donating to orphanages, building skyscrapers, and
amassing the latest, most are sorry for themselves for the torment they undergo. It is the blessing of
God that makes rich without sorrow (Prov. 10:22). So, wait and work for God’s blessing (Gen.
14:21). Any money you make through rituals, embezzlement, and other ungodly means will soon
develop wing and fly away, leaving you with untold sorrow/hardship (Prov. 23:5). Some have even
met their untimely death because of ill-gotten wealth (Jer. 17:11). Some who are being celebrated in
the public, are crying in their closet, wishing they had never embarked on the kind of journey that
brought them to that horrible state.
The rich man in today’s text enjoyed the best money could buy, but eventually lost his soul. He found
himself where his affluence cannot buy him even a drop of water. Oh! What a shameful experience.
He embarked on the journey of no return to hell. He was proud with his wealth, and see no reason to
bless others. And worst of all, he failed to recognise God the Giver (cf. Lk. 12:13-21). You don’t need
to wait for that kind of experience; there is hope for anyone who humbly returns to his/her Creator for
forgiveness and mercy (Isa. 55:7; Acts 3:19). On this year’s World Tourism Day, may you not be on
tour to hell, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 633

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, don’t allow me to be dissuaded from the WAY by the perishable things of this world.
2. O Lord, the grace to be patient and depend on You alone for the blessing You alone gives,
release upon me, and don’t let me opt for offers of Satan.
3. O Lord, rid our churches of the demons of materialism, occultism, fraud and Satanism.
Thursday, September 28, 2023: World Rabies Day
STOP BARKING AT THE WRONG TREE
READ Genesis 30:1-2
MEMORISE: Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb
(Genesis 30:22).

EXPOSITION
Your cries shall be heard by God. Your tears shall be wiped away. But first, stop barking at the wrong
tree. Stop laying charges against the arm of flesh that is incapable of making anything happen. Jacob
angrily answered Rachel, Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the
womb? He was like telling her to stop chasing shadows or barking at the wrong tree. Rachel
eventually learnt to face God, not man, and as soon as she started talking to God, the much-awaited
miracle happened (Gen. 30:22). Stop barking at the wrong tree. A message like this is relevant on this
year’s World Rabies Day.
Imagine a dog barking at a man’s statue holding a stick because it wants him to throw the stick for a
play. Obviously, given the lifelessness of the statue, the dog is asking for help from what cannot help.
That explains the expression, ‘Barking at the wrong tree.’ It means looking in the wrong direction for
help. Every good and perfect thing comes from God alone (Jas. 1:17). Looking for it elsewhere can be
irreversibly disastrous. She who consults idols for a child has chosen to dine with the devil. The
length of her spoon cannot save her from being brutalised by the devil, in the end. What is it you are
going through? Persistently tell it to God in earnest prayers (Lk. 11:8-10). Don’t look the wrong
direction. Stop accusing your Jacob of withholding your child when you should call on God for His
intervention!

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB

PRAYER
1. Let my cry reach You, O Lord, and grant the good desires of my heart.
2. Lord, teach me to direct my hopes and faith towards You.
3. Lord, help our church ministers to direct people’s attention and expectations to You and not
themselves.
Sunday, October 1, 2023: Nigeria’s Independence Day
PERMISSIBLE THOUGH, NOT BENEFICIAL!
READ 1 CORINTHIANS 6:12-20
MEMORISE: All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for
me, but I will not be brought under the power of any (1 Corinthians 6:12).

EXPOSITION:
Glory be to God for this year’s Nigeria’s Independence Day. May we all experience true freedom in
all aspects of our lives. There is therefore the need to look into what true freedom is. The Corinthian
Church was a divided one; there was a ‘conservative’ party. There was also a ‘libertine’ party. From
the latter came the slogan, Everything is permissible for me (NIV). They used it to cover up their acts
of immorality. Paul was quoting them in order to correct them. Even though the statement was true,
Paul believed that it required some qualifications, and explained that their liberty must be applied with
the principle of love to both neighbours and self; because, any liberty that is not beneficial to others is
not loving (1 Cor. 8:1; 10:23), and must be avoided. More so, any liberty that becomes slavery is not
love, but hatred of self. And so, Paul determined, …I will not be brought under the power of any.
The point is that, the principle of freedom (everything is permissible for me: 6:12; 10:23-24) must be
regulated by love for others, and every activity that is not beneficial, constructive, or that does not
promote the good of others must be avoided in the Church of the Living God. You hear some brethren
saying, “You know me, I say it as I see it” or “I cannot be present where I will not be free to say
what’s in my mind.” That is right. But that you see and want to say, have you asked yourself how
true, relevant, helpful and necessary it is. Do you know that you can become a slave to the freedom
you are claiming? Permissiveness can take you to the point of no return! Taking too far on sex can
make you promiscuous. Your right to eat anything can make you gluttonous. You can use your right
to either help others or use it to hurt others. Hear Paul’s conclusion: Therefore, if food makes my
brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble (1 Cor. 8:13). What is
yours?

Prayers:
1. Pray to God to help you use the right you have in Christ to build your fellow human beings up.
2. I will never be a stumbling block to others, in Jesus’ name.
3. Pray that God should cause the libertines and freestyle Christians to stop polluting the Church
and innocent Christians.

NO MORE FAILURES
READ JOHN 5:1-9
MEMORISE: Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk." And immediately the man was
made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath (John 5:8-9).

EXPOSITION
Sometimes, what appears to be failure is just a lesson in disguise. Today, may all your failing attempts
for progress and better life be converted to successes, in Jesus’ name. Amen. A writer once wrote,
“Failure does not mean I’m a failure; it does mean I have not yet succeeded. Failure does not mean I
have accomplished nothing; it does mean I have learned something. Failure does not mean I have
been a fool; it does mean I had enough faith to experiment. Failure does not mean I have been
disgraced; it does mean I have dared to try. Failure does not mean I don’t have it; it does mean I have
something to do in a different way. Failure does not mean I am inferior; it does mean I am not perfect.
Failure does not mean I have wasted my life; it does mean that I have a reason to start over. Failure
does not mean that I should give up; it does mean that I should try harder. Failure does not mean that I
will never make it; it does mean that I need more practice. Failure does not mean that God has
abandoned me; It does mean that God must have a better idea.”
The man whose story we read in the text today must have had several failed attempts to be healed of
his age-long disease, but when his time came, only a divine command liberated him without any
struggle. This shall be your testimony, in Jesus’ name. Amen. On the occasion of this year’s World
Diabetes Day, are you struggling with diabetes or any other ailment? God is healing you, now! Do not
give up on God and yourself. Keep your faith alive and be sensitive to obey His Word. Your healing,
deliverance, prosperity, and life full of abundant joy and peace are closer than imagined. There shall
be no more failure.

TIME IS NOT A BARRIER
READ Mark 9:20-27
MEMORISE: Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years (John 5:5).

EXPOSITION
One notable thing that prevents people from receiving miracles of healing and breakthrough from God
is the time factor. People who have been struggling for years with problems of sicknesses/diseases,
poverty and suffering later take it as fate or their crosses. The problem they have is, ‘it-is-too-late
syndrome or mindset’. Get this right: there is nothing like “it is too late” in the dictionary of God
(Read Gen. 18:14; Mk. 10:27). Time is not a barrier for God to do whatever He intends to do. He
created time and has control over it. The major barrier on the part of human beings to come out of
their problems is unbelief. When Jesus asked the father of the young man tormented by a dumb and
deaf spirit how long the boy had been like that, he answered that it had been from his birth (Mk. 9:21).
Having known that the time factor could be a barrier for the man to get his son healed, Jesus told him
to get the right key for that miracle—faith (v. 23). Here is his reply to Jesus: Lord, I believe; help my
unbelief (v. 24). What he was trying to tell the Lord is to help him not to doubt, because the problem
had been there for long.
On this year’s International Mountain Day, never you forget that no mountain is too high to climb, no
problem too hard to solve, and no miracle too late to receive from God, if you can have faith.
Remember the man at the pool of Bethsaida. Whatever you believe and conceive, you will receive.
