1. How the Bangladeshi army was formed during Liberation war 1971?

Ans. Bangladesh army was born out of the great Liberation war in 1971. Our liberation war and
the history of Bangladesh army are inseparable. The foundation of Bangladesh armed forces was
laid on 4 April 1971, through an interested meeting at the bungalow of Teliapara tea garden in
the then Habiganj subdivision. In the wake of operation searchlight on 25 th March 1971 it was
the first visible military step to bring the fighters, volunteers, and regular forces under a single
command across the country. Colonel (retd) MAG Osmany was entrusted with coordinating the
Bengali officers and the regular forces for the first resistance and leading the liberation war
under an important leadership.
During the liberation war the Bengali army formed Mukti Fouz and played innumerable roles a
the nucleus of Mukti Bahini. The Bengali army operated operations in their respective territories
against the Pakistani forces from March 26,1971. Previously Bengali army personnel were
concerned about the volatile political situation erstwhile East Pakistan and were in touch with
political leaders. When the Pakistani occupational forces attacked on Bengali the EBR officers
and soldiers along with police and mass people demonstrated spontaneous revolt and resistant
movement in the different parts of countries without any organized and combined approach. On
4 April 1971 they formed Mukti fouz under the command of MAG Osmani without any central
political direction. After forming government in-Exile Bangladesh army fought under 7 regional
commands till 11 July. Then Bangladesh Army fought for the country under 11 sectors from July
to December 16 according to Teliapara strategy.
