VARIOUS YOGASAN

(Project)
what is Yoga?
It began as a spiritual practice but has
become popular as a way of promoting
physical and mental well-being. Although
classical yoga also includes other elements,
yoga as practiced in the United States
typically emphasizes physical postures
(asanas), breathing techniques
(pranayama), and meditation (dyana).
VARIOUS YOGASANAS:-
1. Suryanamaskar
2. Chakra-asana
3. Garudasana
4. Gomukha-asana
5. Padmasana
6. Sirsh-asana
7. Vraja-asana
8. Vrikshasan
9. Tadasana
10. Trikonasana
1.suryanamaskar Suryanamaskar is a sequence of twelve different postures that involves
forward bends and backbend is done synchronizing the breath. The Practice
of Suryanamaskar is a perfect routine to bring flexibility to the spine and also
to reduce fat around the abdomen.

Surya in Sanskrit is sun and namaskar is praying by joining both hands

together. Hence suryanamaskar is pronounced as Sunsalutation in English.
Sun salutation is a way of offering respect to the sun god as he represents
health and wealth.

According to yogic thoughts, it is believed that offering prayer to the sun is

blessed with health and prosperity.

The twelve powerful posture of Suryanamaskar activates all the organs and
glands of the human body and thereby ensures it functions properly for
healthy living. This is known to be one of the best techniques to reduce fat
faster as it burns more calories in a short span.
2. Chakra-asana
Urdhva Dhanurasana (sometimes known as
Chakrasana), is popularly referred to as Wheel Pose,
though the literal Sanskrit translation is “upward-
facing bow.”
The name Chakrasana is derived from the word
‘Chakra’, meaning ‘wheel’. This asana is named so
because the final posture of the body resembles a
round wheel. It is full body asana that helps stretch
and strengthen the knees, spine, chest and the upper
limbs4.
The name comes from the Sanskrit chakra, which means
“wheel,” and asana, which means “posture” or “seat.” It is
so called because the body forms the shape of a wheel
when in this posture. Chakrasana may also be referred to
simply as wheel pose
3. Garudasan
Garudasana is an asymmetric position in which one leg, say
the right, is crossed over the left, while the arm on the
opposite side, say the left, is crossed over the right, and the
palms are pressed together. Like all poses on one leg, it
demands, and may help to build, balance and concentration.

Garudasana yoga intensely stretches the shoulders and

upper body area. In the eagle pose, the shoulder is moved
towards the middle of the body, allowing the shoulders and
arm joints to loosen. It may also help to remove stiffness and
reduce pain in the shoulders.

Vajrasana (Sanskrit: वज्रासन, romanized: vajrāsana),

Thunderbolt Pose, or Diamond Pose, is a kneeling asana in
hatha yoga and modern yoga as exercise.
4. Gomukha-asana
The pose stretches the shoulders. The hand
position can be modified using a strap to
extend the reach for those who cannot bring
the hands together behind the back. The pose
is contra-indicated for people with a rotator
cuff injury. Preparatory poses for
Gomukhasana include Baddha Konasana and
Garudasana.

It may help in easing leg cramps as this posture

helps in stretching hamstring and gluteal muscles
making legs feel relaxed. 7. It may increase
flexibility of the body as it stretches shoulders,
upper arms, chest, hips and thighs.
5.Padmasana
• Lotus position or Padmasana (Sanskrit:
पद्मासन, romanized: padmāsana) is a
cross-legged sitting meditation pose
from ancient India, in which each foot is
placed on the opposite thigh. It is an
ancient asana in yoga, predating hatha
yoga, and is widely used for meditation
in Hindu, Tantra, Jain, and Buddhist
traditions.
6. Sirsha-asana Shirshasana (Sanskrit: शीर्ाासन, IAST: śīrṣāsana)
Salamba Shirshasana, or Yoga Headstand is an
inverted asana in modern yoga as exercise; it
was described as both an asana and a mudra in
classical hatha yoga, under different names. It
has been called the king of all asanas.

It should be practiced only in the morning. The

practice results in temporary sympathetic
activation. This may even disturb your sleep
rhythm. Practice in the morning is highly
recommended.
7. Vraja - asana
Its name comes from the Sanskrit word vajra,
which means thunderbolt or diamond. For this
pose, you kneel and then sit back on your legs to
take the weight off your knees. Breathing and
meditative exercises are often done in this position,
which is said to help your body become as strong
as a diamond.
Vajrasana is the Sanskrit name for a seated yoga
asana. This posture provides a deep stretch for the
quadriceps and the tops of the feet, and is believed
to assist in digestion. Vajrasana can be used as a
transitional or resting pose between other asana,
and it is often used as a posture for meditation.
8. Vrikshasan
Vrikshasana (Sanskrit: वक्ष
ृ ासन, romanized:
vṛkṣāsana) or Tree Pose is a balancing asana. It is
one of the very few standing poses in medieval
hatha yoga, and remains popular in modern yoga as
exercise.

Benefits of Vrikshasana for Sciatica: Vrikshasana

calms and relaxes the central nervous system and
stretches the entire body. It strengthens the legs
and opens the hips and improves your
neuromuscular coordination and endurance. It may
thus be helpful for those who suffer from sciatica
(nerve pain in the leg).
9. Tada-asana
Tadasana is the basic standing asana on
which many other poses are founded. The
feet are together and the hands are at the
sides of the body. The posture is entered by
standing with the feet together, grounding
evenly through the feet and lifting up
through the crown of the head.
10. Trikonasana
Trikonasana is performed in two parts,
facing left, and then facing right. The
practitioner begins standing with the feet
one leg-length apart, knees unbent, turns
the right foot completely to the outside and
the left foot less than 45 degrees to the
inside, keeping the heels in line with the
hips.

Which disease is cured by Trikonasana? It

helps your body to reduce gastritis,
heartburn and flatulence. It improves the
flexibility of your spine and relieves
backache.
