Time Diary Summary and Deep Dive

The importance of leisure time along with time management is very important in the

lifestyle that I live. It is important to have a good balance of both so that you are able to have that

fun aspect of life, but also being able to manage and get done the important things that just

cannot get put off. I will take you through an in depth breakdown of how I spend my leisure time

along with being able to management my school work. It will only be a small sample size of a

few days, but you will be able to see what I do in my free time and how much of my time is

spent on school and doing the necessary things in those days. The main components of my

breakdown are the overall use of my time, the effect it has on my stress levels, and the way that it

influences my mental health and wellness of my body. These all play a crucial role in deciding

what activities I do in a day’s time and how much enjoyment I get out of each activity.

Overall Use Of My Time

In my own opinion I found a few things very surprising about my time use. The thing I

found the most interesting was how much of a routine I have, for example how much of different

days are almost identical due to me doing the exact same things at the exact same times. In the

article “The Importance of Routines” it highlights how “routines create structure” as well as

“routines reduce stress levels and create stability and comfort” and after looking back on it I can

say that days where I stick to my routine are days where I am happier and more productive

compared days where I do not follow my usual routine. I also found it very interesting that I

spent much more time without technology compared to with it because it seems like I spend so

much time either on my phone or computer every day. I spent a total of 41.5 hours without

technology and 29.5 with technology. Something else that had caught my eye was the fact of

how much time I spend alone. I spent a total of 46 hours by myself and 26 with others. I hope to

improve on that and spend more time with friends and family. When I compared my time usage

compared to the average I found it very interesting. The biggest thing was that I spent about 7.5

hours for leisure time and on average the time is about 5 hours an in my opinion that is relatively

similar when comparing the two.

Emotional and Stress Values

One of the most important factors to my life is my stress level because how much it can

fluctuate throughout the day. The amount of stress that I encounter changes within minutes of

finishing an assignment or being assigned a new one. For the most part I was not very stressed at

all, the things that made me the most stressed were going to class and doing homework.

Although I would rather not be stressed I feel as if it is a good thing because it shows that I care

about how well I do and that I try not accept the minimum and try to push myself to do better

work. For the most part my emotions were very high and positive, but once again were lowered

when doing homework and going to class because to me those things are not fun at all. Although

I know that I need to do those things sometimes they either just get boring or I am not doing as

well as I think I should and that aggravates me because I know my limits and how smart I am

and when I am struggling on something I feel as if should he easy it upsets me and I am not

longer enjoying anything about doing that activity. I see the most changes in my happiness and

stress levels when I went from sleeping to class to basketball practice and coming home to play

video games in that time frame I go from happy to upset back to happy. In the article “7 Reasons

Why Happiness Is Important In Your Life” the author states that “happy people maintain

relationships” and I found that important because to be successful in life you need to have

connections and when you are happy it is easier to go up someone and start a conversation and if

that person can tell you have a happy character they will want to work with you in the future.

Health and Wellness.

In my life the factor that plays the biggest role is my mental health and I have always

made that a priority. I have seen many people act like they are good and happy but in reality they

are hurting on the inside and that is not a way that I want to live. The activity that positively

impacts my mental state the most is basketball practice. I highlight this activity because when at

practice I am doing some I love and have loved since I was 5 years old. When I’m shooting and

dribbling and just in the basketball gym it feels like nothing else matters to me. I can clear my

head and get out any frustrations when I am practicing because I just find so much enjoyment. At

the same time it helps my physical health because it is constant exercise and cardio everyday

along with lifting weights, it keeps me in a better physical stat compared to if I just lay around all

day and did not do anything active at all. One activity that negatively effects my menta heath is

class and homework although it is good for me to learn sometimes I worry about every little

detail of homework and tests and studying that I drive myself into a states that is in constant

worry and never actually learning anything because I am so worried about the grade that I am

going to get on an assignment or test. If I could change one thing about my times is that I would

set aside time towards the end of my might to read and journal more often so that I can get that

self-reflection time and see what I need to work on as well as what I am doing with in life at the

time, so definitely more me time that focuses on bettering myself such as meditation. In the

article “The Importance Of Mental Health” the author states “Maintaining a positive mental

health and treating any mental health conditions  is crucial to stabilizing constructive behaviors,

emotions, and thoughts. Focusing on mental health care can increase productivity, enhance our

self-image, and improve relationships.” And I found this very important because it highlights the

affect that mental health has on the everyday life and how being positive and happy can improve

everything.

Conclusion

All in all the way that spend y time is different than the next person but it is unique to me

and that is all that matters. Are there things that I need t change, yes pf course but that is why

there is another day after to make changes and do the things that make you happy. I try to spend

my time being as happy as possible and doing that things that I find enjoyment in. I highlighted

how much of my time was spent stress compared to happy, as well as how much technology I

used, and how much of my time was spent alone and those are all very important in shaping me

into the persona that I am. I also talked about my time spent affecting my mental health and that

is what is most important to me because that is what I base everything on, how am I doing

mentally and if my mind is healthy and happy than so am I. Everybody spend their time

differently, but this is how I spent mine in a three day span.
