1. XENTRY Update Service in combination with the Retail Data

Storage unit
1.1. Operating concept
The XENTRY Update Service supplies workshops with online updates for vehicle diagnosis systems and
control unit software (Regio DVD, DiBA).

Release updates and control unit software on the previously released "Regio DVD" and "Digital
Operator's Manual (DiBA)" are centrally provided by Mercedes-Benz AG online.
The Internet connection is used once for the download to the Retail Data Storage unit, in other words,
release updates or control unit software are downloaded from the Internet once only.

After downloading to the Retail Data Storage unit, data is distributed to the connected XENTRY Diagnosis
Kit 3 diagnostic devices via your internal network.

Technical prerequisite: Recommended bandwidth of 6 Mbit/s, WLAN access points with at least
IEEE 802.11n standard, preferably 802.11ac standard with gross data transfer rate of 1.3 Gbit/s.

New release updates are downloaded and installed on the XENTRY Diagnosis Pad in the background
during regular operation.

After installation in the background, it is possible to switch between the original release version and the
new release version at any given time as the XENTRY Diagnosis Pad features two partitions. Please refer
to the XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 3 user guide for the procedure for switching between releases.

WLAN and, if necessary, disable the proxy configuration beforehand.

To activate the Retail Data Storage unit, connect the Retail Data Storage unit to your PC/laptop using
a LAN cable.

Important: For connection to the PC/laptop, use the admin port on the Retail Data Storage
unit (right-hand network connection!). When commissioning for the first time the admin
port has a red plastic cap fitted to it.

Figure 4: Admin port on the Retail Data Storage unit

Now connect the Retail Data Storage unit to your workshop network using another LAN cable. Use the
left-hand network connection of the Retail Data Storage unit to do this.

In conclusion, the right-hand LAN connector must be connected to the PC/laptop (red marking in
diagram above), the left-hand LAN cable must be connected to the workshop network.

Please note that the Retail Data Storage unit must never be connected directly to the
Internet without a firewall.

Use the "Download times" section to specify on which day and at which time the Retail Data
Storage unit should be allowed to download diagnosis software updates. Releases and flashware
are updated at regular intervals, and consist of large volumes of data. We therefore recommend
download times outside of the working day, optimally at night. The advantage here is that your
network is not overloaded during business hours.
