Road Asphalt Construction

Infrastructure development is one of the things that must be done in every country,
including the construction of the road asphalt itself. Why? Asphalt roads will provide
comfort for motorized vehicle drivers in their journey. In addition, this one infrastructure
development will also facilitate activities requiring road access for the asphalt road users.

How is the Road Asphalt Making Process?

asphalt road construction process

Like the construction of road sidewalks for the comfort and safety of pedestrians, the
construction of this asphalt road aims to provide comfort and safety for motorists. Apart
from that, another goal is to connect one area to another.

However, any infrastructure development, including this infrastructure, requires significant

infrastructure planning costs.

The following are some of the processes that must be carried out in the construction of
road asphalt:

Road Mapping => This process is held to determine the best path to be used as a road.

Land Acquisition => This is the next step as part of the process of constructing asphalt roads,
namely by acquiring lands belonging to residents to be used as a medium for building road
infrastructure.

Addition of Material => In this process, the material for the road foundation is added in the
form of river stones. Through these stages, various kinds of heavy equipment are used. Just
to note that the material for this foundation is spread across all roads to be built.

Coating application => The asphalt coating is applied after the road material is leveled. The
asphalt will be heated first so that it melts, then poured onto the road surface using a tool
called an asphalt finisher by meeting the expected density standards

Hardening and Equalization => This process is carried out after the road has been coated
with asphalt with perfect density. The paved road surface will go through a hardening and
leveling process using a tool called a peneumatic roller.
What Kind of Asphalt Is Used?

type of road asphalt

In the construction of road asphalt, the type of asphalt that is usually used is artificial
asphalt. This is also adjusted to the climate in the construction site.

For example, for roads with high traffic volume and located in hot climates, the type of
artificial asphalt used is the low penetration type of asphalt 40/55.

Meanwhile, 100/100 high penetration asphalt is intended for roads with low or moderate
volume traffic with cold climates. Basically, choosing the type of asphalt according to traffic
volume and weather. This is done to make road durability last long.

However, there are also types of asapal made from plastic. This is an innovation for
infrastructure development. The use of asphalt for the road itself has become an invention
that facilitates human movement.

From this, the Indonesian government is also conducting trials to mix plastic waste and
asphalt to make other types of artificial asphalt for road construction. The use of plastic
waste is also carried out to solve the problem of plastic waste which is a problem for
everyone in various parts of the world.

The construction of an asphalt highway does require a lot of maintenance costs. In addition,
there are also road maintenance costs that need to be carried out regularly to maintain road
conditions.

Not only that, the drainage around the road is also important to pay attention to. This is
done so that water does not stagnate on the road surface and damage the road asphalt
structure.
The weakened road structure makes it easier for cracks to occur and the road has to be
repaired. For example, rainwater will enter the inside of the road which then breaks down
the bonds of material that cause damage.

the benefits of building asphalt for the community

1. Streamlining transportation so that goods arrive quickly at their destination.

2. Because the construction of road infrastructure shows improvement, thus reducing the
expenditure of a goods delivery service that was previously expensive becomes cheaper.

3. If the delivery is cheap, the price of the goods can be achieved.

4. Fuel Efficiency.

5. Increase local government revenue

Increase the economic rate of society.

6. With the support of road infrastructure can open up jobs.

7. Towards a better state than before.
