NARAYAN MURTHY
Narayana Murthy, an engineer by profession, founded Infosys in
1981 with Rs 10,000 borrowed from his wife. It was a step that
ushered in an IT revolution in India, putting the country and its
talented people on the international map. Today, Infosys is India's
largest information technology firm, and it is known around the
world for its innovative, dynamic, and ethical business practices.
Many organizations in India and abroad use the company's
consulting and software services. Mr. Murthy led the firm until 2002,
guiding it to great heights of success over the course of 21 years. He
is still the non-executive chairman of the Board and has increased
social cause initiatives. What distinguishes him is his clarity of vision
and flawless execution, his concern for clients and employees alike,
and his refusal to compromise on business practices.

He serves on the boards of several national and international


engineering and business schools, including INSEAD, Wharton,
Harvard, and IIM Ahmedabad. He has received numerous honors and
awards, including Business India's "Businessman of the Year 1999,"
"Padma Vibhushan" (2008), and the France Government's "Legion of
Honour" (2008). He is well-known for his straightforwardness. The
beauty of this family is that they believe in giving back to those in
need.
