ADF tests on the …rst di¤erence of CEXP clearly reject a unit root whereas
ADF tests on CEXP fail to reject a unit root. Thus the conclusion is that CEXP
is I(1).

ADF tests on the …rst di¤erence of I clearly reject a unit root. ADF tests
on I, allowing for a trend, reject a unit root when one lag is included but fail to
reject when four lags are included. The conclusion is that I is I(1) but we may
allow the possibility of I(0).

=============================================================
Augmented Dickey-Fuller test statistic -2.604727 0.2789
Test critical values: 1% level -4.015341
5% level -3.437629

Max-eigenvalue test indicates 1 cointegrating equation(s) at the 5% level
Max-eigenvalue test indicates no cointegration at the 1% level
Both the maximal eigenvalue test suggests one cointegrating vector but the
trace test suggests that there are two cointegrating vectors. However, the results
are not robust to changing the sample size or the order of the VAR process. Thus
there is doubt as to whether there is one or two cointegrating vectors here. King et
al. (using di¤erent techniques) decided that there were two cointegrating vectors.

The restrictions that the two cointegrating vectors can be written as:

CEXP = Y + u1 and I = Y + u2

cannot be rejected even at the 15% level. This is consistent with a long run
equilibrium unit elasticity of unity with respect to income for both consumption
and investment.
