TOGAF ADM AND

CORE CONCEPTS
´ Baseline or As-is Enterprise Architecture:
The set of products that portay the existing enterprise, the current
business practices, and the IT infrastructure. Commonly referred to as
the As-Is Enterprise
´ Target or To-Be Enterprise Architecture
The set of product that portay the future or, the end-state enterprise,
generally captured in the organisation’s strategic thinking and
business & technology plans
Architectur Development method
(ADM) in TOGAF
ADM Phases:
´ Preliminary Phase: is about defining 'where, what, why, who,
and how we do architecture' in the enterprise concerned.
describes the preparation and initiation activities required to create an
Architecture Capability.

´ Phase A: Architecture Vision

´ describes the initial phase of an architecture development
cycle.
´defining the scope.
´identifying the stakeholders.
´creating the Architecture Vision
´ Phase B: Business Architecture describes the development of
a Business Architecture to support the agreed Architecture Vision

´ Phase C: Information Systems Architectures describes the

development of Information Systems Architectures to support the
agreed Architecture Vision

´ Phase D: Technology Architecture describes the

development of the Technology Architecture to support the agreed
Architecture Vision
´ Phase E: Opportunities & Solutions identify:
´ the parameters of change
´ the major phases along the way
´ and the top-level projects to be undertaken in moving from the
current environment to the target.

´ Phase F: Migration Planning addresses how to move from the

Baseline to the Target Architectures by finalizing a detailed
Implementation and Migration Plan
• sort the various implementation projects into priority order.
• Activities include assessing the dependencies, costs and benefits of the various
migration projects.

´ Phase G: Implementation Governance provides an

architectural oversight of the implementation
´ Phase H: Architecture Change Management establishes
procedures for managing change to the new architecture

´ Requirements Management examines the process of

managing architecture requirements throughout the ADM
Deliverable
• is a work product that is contractually specified and in turn formally
reviewed, agreed, and signed off by the stakeholders.
• represent the output of projects.

Artifact
• is an architectural work product that describes an aspect of the
architecture.
• classified as catalogs (lists of things), matrices (showing
relationships between things), and diagrams (pictures of things).
• Ex:-
– requirements catalog.
– business interaction matrix.
– use case diagram.
´ Enterprise capability or an enterprise business capability
is an elemental entity that encapsulates what the
business does and can do
´ A Building Block is therefore simply a package of
functionality defined to meet business needs.
´ Solution Building Blocks (SBBs) represent components that
will be used to implement the required capability.
´ Architecture Building Blocks (ABBs) describe required
capability and shape the specification of Solution Building
Blocks (SBBs).
