The One Meaningful Movie Review

of “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest”

-By Chieh-Lin Chou

The film's title is "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest", which is a simple title that
describes the film's story. I adore this movie because it corresponds to my life story
because of my family troubles; I was born in a place where my parents entirely
controlled me, exactly like the callous nurse in the movie. Even though so many awful
things happened, and joyous strange moments inside the plot warmed my heart, this
type of movie was a psychological comedy-drama, a must-watch. Those people there
have troubles in life, which has driven them insane; they deserve to be happy and free
since they are human, to heal themselves, rather than allowing the mental institution to
govern their lives with medicines and never open again. I'm going to give this movie
big amazing compliments to it since I love it so much! Thanks to fantasy films for this
movie, thanks to the writer of this movie Ken Kesey, and last but not least, thanks to
everyone who worked on this film, especially the talented actors, the movie was perfect
for those who are interested in talking about our lives as humans, im sure this film
really can save lives too.

It begins in the Oregon State Hospital, where Ma'am Ratched was the head
nurse, caring for the hospital's patients. The main character was Randle McMurphy,
who was caught and taken to the hospital after stealing from a billionaire, he also
statutory raped a girl, who was told she was eighteen but was just fifteen, and more bad
things he does. Dr. Spivey first trusted him, but he needed to stay to train to be a better
person, McMurphy was furious at first, but as he spent more time with the other
patients, he saw that they, too, had many difficulties in life and were too regulated by
the nurse and other personnel there. When it comes to having fun with people who
have problems with trauma, the more he learns about it, the more he wants to talk to
them all and treat them like best friends. What happened when he made the patients
happier together was complex; nurse Ratched despised them for getting happy because
of how untidy and noisy they would be. Chef Bromden, Billy Bibbit, Charley Cheswick,
Martini, Dale Harding, and Tabers are the patients who are always around McMurphy,
they all have a lot of trauma from what life difficulties have done to them. Turkle was
the hospital's night watchman; he wanted the patients to be happy, but he was afraid
that sharing too much of their freedom might endanger his own life, so he became very
angry at them in the end. A story that implies that if we didn't even see inside, we
wouldn't know what's inside, those full of sufferings of the patients covered by the
building's awful title, was nothing for all of us if he doesn't even see, and experience it,
we watchers would never know.
For me, the most outstanding actor in the movie "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's
Nest" was every one of them; they knew what they were doing, and I was addicted to
how serious they were in this story; they perfectly performed the roles of the characters.
Especially for the main character, Jack Nicholson did wonderfully in the role of coming
into the hospital to investigate the lives of the patients and being a bad kid who has
truly followed the truth of society but is still labeled as having brain problems. Another
thing I like and dislike about Nurse Ratched is Louise Fletcher played the role, but I
kinda understand her perspective on the patients, she is tired as a nurse taking all of
them so many, but she was loyal to her job, with no heart use, which makes the patients
scared of her, and listening to her all the time, she was slain in the role on how heartless
she is. Finally, even though he didn't play many parts in the film as Chief Bromden
actor was Will Sampson, I like how the personality of this character, how good he was
pretending don't hear anything at first, and suddenly a big surprise at how much he is a
very normal person, who hiding here in the hospital, cause lying on he didn't hear
anything and being weird, he has done a very good job. I don't like how the actor
William Redfield played Dale Harding because his character in this movie was too
judgmental; I wish he would be friendlier to those who want to help him and stop
shouting and hating others, but he did a good job, and the other actors in this movie
were amazing as well, really makes me feel like they are all patients in a brain hospital.

I appreciate the scene where McMurphy takes the patients out into the world
without the other health workers controlling them. Allowing them to view gorgeous
ladies, go seashore exploring, and pretend to be doctors to win the yacht was a
humorous portion. After that, they all go fishing, and McMurphy truly shows them
how to do it, to enjoy life even though they all may have brain problems on different
levels. Another scene was when they were playing basketball, it's funny that they were
better than the health workers because of how tall Chief Bromden was, and he enjoyed
how McMurphy, motivated them to do something happy, even though they were all
shouting at each other, but still doing a good job, was one of the cutest moments of the
movie. In the scene where they were voting on how many patients wanted to watch the
football LIVE on TV with McMurphy who want at first, on the first day only
McMurphy and another patient agreed, but on another day he already made it over half
of the patients, and successfully to have fun with them watching the LIVE, even though
the nurse was quietly good there, but I'm still very angry at how bad and mean she was
at first, and how strict she was on how happy the patients would be too. The ending
scene was extremely heartbreaking, it was difficult for me to comprehend why Chief
did that to McMurphy at first, but in the end, I feel how silent his kindness is to
McMurphy, as he truly accepts him as his best friend. All of my favorite moments were
happy ones because I like to see how happy they were, even if they had a lot of
problems in life and became insane, and I hate focusing on the negative sides, to learn
more about how many things I don't know about as a girl who just turned 18 years old,
to always change for the better. The scene I don't like was the spoiler scene, which is
about what the nurse and doctors do to McMurphy even though he didn’t do anything
wrong, is all the nurse's fault, which makes Chief so shocked and heartbroken that he
can only depart with his spirit.

I learned a lot from this movie, I see how much better my life was, but I don't
even feel thankful for how blessed I am, I'm not trying to compare my life to theirs even
though they're just acting, I'm just trying to make myself stop complaining about the
bad things that happened to my life, those patients in the movie's life was way more
serious than mine, and was completely controlled by the nurse and health workers
there. A heartless person was a horrible thing in our lives, so we must not be that way,
especially as doctors and nurses, we must be kind and open-hearted to serve our
patients and take them in a good way, not in medicine's everyday method, which only
makes them worse. This movie is the best life film for me, even though it has many sad
parts that make me so disappointed, but I realize those peoples who were inside the
mental hospital were not there because they were weird or not normal, but because they
have their own very big problem that makes them crazy and gets trauma, it makes their
mind not returning to a calm mood whenever a small problem happens, that makes
them look not normal anymore, but they are still humans, and they must have freedom
of it. It helps me become calmer than others in my family, I will control my mouth, what
I say, and even my anger, it is all about balance, I knew that when we were angry was
scary and made us look abnormal, so I must control nicely and keep on practicing so
that I do not hurt anyone who I love in the future. I believe that everyone who saw this
movie learned to care about balancing the sins we commit, especially the manners with
which we treat others. It was important to stay calm and never do something too overly
bad, because everything had limits, so it was best that we were all scared to go to
mental hospitals, we must control ourselves to avoid going there.

The group of individuals who were interested in talking about life difficulties
and how to overcome them, as well as the loving people, would comprehend this movie
deeply and thoughtfully, even though it was not simple to get the movie's message, as
each event in the tale was quite perplexing. I recommend it to people who hate those
who are in mental hospitals or people who don't even know what's inside the hospital
but have a feeling that place was only for the abnormal people because after watching
this, they will realize a lot of things, especially if they were judged too much, because it
covered, we all must control on judging and looking down on others. I don't
recommend it to people under the age of 17 because it contains blood and sexual
content, which is NC-17 in the MPAA rating. It's not a good idea to let the child watch
this because they haven't matured enough to understand why those people suddenly
shouted, became angry, or cried, which may cause the child to act inappropriately.
Another reason I do not recommend it to individuals who are not open-minded and
toxic is that they will not stop judging them for being sad, dramatic, and unusual, and
will no longer enjoy the movie, thus it is best not to learn from others' terrible life
stories. My final word on this movie is that it is a really good movie to learn, it was
worth it, and I learned to become a better person because of it, it changed my mindset
and let my life become better, so I super recommend it to all the open-minded peoples
and heartful people, or who hate the peoples who have brain problems, to watch this
for our better future selves to be proud of ourselves on watching this movie, and getting
the lessons information to be a more wonderful person.

I will give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars because I just hope the ending is happier
so that we are not afraid to try anything in life. It may be because McMurphy dies, but it
may scare us the viewers to be afraid to stand up for what is right. Is a big score already,
because this movie was truly fantastic. At first, I felt strange about this movie and
worried that I would just waste time viewing it, but it turns out that I am really satisfied
with how the story flowed in the movie. The way Nurse Ratched drove me to hate her
makes a fantastic movie since if a movie doesn't have characters we dislike, it will be
really boring and sleepy, thus this movie truly did a nice story making, that wishes
getting me more excited about the next because of how toxic Nurse Ratched is. Chief
Bromden pretends not to hear other people and pretends to be strange and abnormal,
and then unexpectedly surprises McMurphy and me as an audience, was so great, I
liked it so much, and I'm glad he opens up to others again, compliments to him, as he is
just a character on this drama. This movie was really based on real life, not the perfect
life that other movies show, that happily ever after, was not real to our life, so this is was
good the ending was giving that enough, to let us feel life is life, there are a lot of things
that might happen bad, even if he just get angry too much, it can change his life
completely.
