The decline in Rome versus America

Debates have been made on the situation in America's economy. According to a study

done in 2021, 79% of the people surveyed stated that the economy is declining. Hence, to the

ordinary people, historians are starting to see the similarity between the fall of the Roman

Empire and that of the United States. It is claimed that America started declining after World

War II. It is due to the decreasing power in the military, economically and even socially. The

same happened to the Roman Empire, the difference only being the timeline. Therefore, there is

a valid comparison between America and Rome’s Decline.

For instance, the monetary depreciation of the dollar in consideration of the other foreign

currencies is high. As of February 2022, the currency has depreciated by over 31% and 6%

against currencies of industrialized countries and developing nations, respectively (Galati et al.,

1-23). The same happened to the Roman currencies, which led to serious corruption by the

leaders, as evident in the USA. Moreover, international trade is also affected by the declining

currency in America. Such problems in trade are seen in the USA and Mexico conflict, which is

affected by the declining currency issues and political differences. The Roman Empire similarly

was affected by political differences between them and Barbarian tribes causing their currency to

dip.

Moreover, the military conquest of Rome made its resources to be overused. Therefore

gradually, their economy was spread on a thin line. It is the same case with America, where due

to diseases and overstepping in other peoples' wars such as Afghanistan, they have stretched their

military resources. Therefore, just as Rome, if America isn't careful, it will have neighbours

barking at their door trying to bring the fall of the USA as Constantinople fell in 1453.

Furthermore, the division of the empire into two sections to stabilize the reign resulted at

the end of the Roman Empire. Such divides mean that the political divisions are so many that

they cannot decide to maintain the country's stability. The same case happens in the USA, where

the political divides, especially between the Democrats and Republicans, hinder the growth of

America. If this continues, the country will be looking at a situation where the mega decision

will take too long to be made and implemented, which renders the enemy more powerful than

America.

To conclude, there is a valid comparison between the fall of America and Rome. The

only difference is that America has not fallen yet, so it can take steps to reach the positive

standards that the pioneers of Native America envisioned.
