1 Introduction
The VNP CMP Satellite module power-up procedure describes the tests required prior to
the VNP chassis assembly. The tests include pre-power assembly check, and power-up
voltage verification.

The pre-power assembly check (Section 2) and the power-up voltage check (Section 3)
can be performed using a standard calibrated multimeter.

2 Pre-Power Assembly Check

The pre-power assembly check verifies that the power/ground impedance is within
expected range. If any major failures exist, this test will prevent module damage if the
module was powered on.

Table 1 below shows the pre-power impedance measurements. Each measurement is a

simple resistive measurement (using the multimeter) across the locations indicated in
Table 1 and shown in Section 4.
Test Measurement Location Measurement Value
1 C22 (V12) >1.0K Ohms
2 C11 (V3_3) >10.0K Ohms
3 C3 (V1_0_D7A) 3.0 Ohms – 10.0 Ohms
4 C9 (V1_5) 130 Ohms – 250 Ohms
5 C2 (V1_0_D7B) 3.0 Ohms – 10.0 Ohms
6 C86 (V2_5_D7A) 700.0 Ohms - 1.50 K Ohms
7 U9 Pin 5 to GND (V2_5_D7B_PLL) >20.0K Ohms
8 U12 Pin 5 to GND (V2_5_D7A_PLL) >20.0K Ohms
9 C114 (V2_5_PEX) 0.70K Ohms – 1.50K Ohms
10 J4 Pin 4 to GND (V3_3_SW) 100.0 Ohms – 220.0 Ohms
11 C118 (1V2_FPGA) 100.0 Ohms – 220.0 Ohms
12 C133 (V5) 8.50K Ohms – 10.50K Ohms
13 C119 (V2_5_FPGA) 190.0 Ohms – 310.0 Ohms
14 C73 (V2_5_D7A) 0.80K Ohms – 1.20K Ohms

3 Power-up Verification
The power-up verification is a voltage measurement at all power locations indicated in
Table 2 and shown in Section 4. The CMP module is not “hot swappable”; therefore,
make sure the test fixture is powered off when installing or removing the CMP module
from the test fixture.
Verify that the external Power Supply is off. Connect the Test Fixture power cable to the
external Power Supply. Install the CMP Module into the test chassis/fixture. If the CMP
module does not easily install into the test fixture do not assert force (i.e. – substantial
force should not be required to install the CMP module into the test fixture). Once the
CMP module has been successfully installed into the test fixture turn on the fixture power
source.

Table 2 below shows the power-up voltage measurements.

Test Measurement Location Measurement Value
1 C22 (V12) 12.00 Volts +/- 0.25 Volts
2 C11 (V3_3) 3.30 Volts +/- 0.15 Volts
3 C3 (V1_0_D7A) 1.00 Volts +/- 0.04 Volts
4 C9 (V1_5) 1.50 Volts +/- 0.06 Volts
5 C2 (V1_0_D7B) 1.00 Volts +/- 0.04 Volts
6 C86 (V2_5_D7A) 2.50 Volts +/- 0.10 Volts
7 U9 Pin 5 to GND (V2_5_D7B_PLL) 2.50 Volts +/- 0.10 Volts
8 U12 Pin 5 to GND (V2_5_D7A_PLL) 2.50 Volts +/- 0.10 Volts
9 C114 (V2_5_PEX) 2.50 Volts +/- 0.10 Volts
10 J4 Pin 4 to GND (V3_3_SW) 3.30 Volts +/- 0.15 Volts
11 C118 (1V2_FPGA) 1.20 Volts +/- 0.05 Volts
12 C133 (V5) 5.00 Volts +/- 0.30 Volts
13 C119 (V2_5_FPGA) 2.50 Volts +/- 0.10 Volts
14 C73 (V2_5_D7A) 2.50 Volts +/- 0.10 Volts
Table 2 – Power-up Voltage Measurements
If any of the measured voltages fail, the module should be powered off immediately.

After the test is completed turn off the +12V input power before removing the CMP
module from the test fixture.
