Human communications

Media analysis

The show I picked to write my media analysis in human communications is called The
Ranch. The show can be accessed on Netflix and many other websites. The show consists of the
characters having personal relationships with each other. The features of a personal relationship
consist of uniqueness, commitment and relationship goals. The two characters I will use to
demonstrate are Colt and Abby, they are girlfriend and boyfriend in the early stages but end up
getting married. The two of them are unique to each other because they have both loved each
other forever, they were high school sweethearts. They both show each other commitment
because they stay loyal to each other and tell each other the truth all the time without lying to
each other. At the beginning of their relationship they set goals for each other some of their goals
consisted of staying loyal, being honest all of the time, and lastly it was to always wish the best
on one and another. Another way to connect the show The ranch to human communications is
listening and responding. From the start Abby and Colt promised each other that they would be
one hundred percent honest with each other and tell them everything, even if it is going to get the
other one angry or sad. With that being said, at the end of the day both Abby and Colt would sit
down next to each other and tell them everything that had happened that day whether it was good
stuff or bad stuff, and the other would listen, communicate back, and try and understand
everything that occurred to the other in that day. Whenever Colt and Abby got into a fight or an
argument they would always talk it through, meaning when they fought they wouldn’t just ignore
each other and storm off until the other person just forgot about what happened, this is healthy in
a relationship because it shows that two people could talk things through and be happy at the
end. This to me is a great example of listening and responding. The last thing I noticed while
watching The ranch that could be connected to human communications is small group
communication. Colt lived in a family of four, him, his brother Rooster, his dad beau, and his
mom Maggie. Although, they might not of had the closest family, and although they didn’t
always see eye to eye with each other, at the end of the day they would all sit down with each
other and communicate with each other. They would talk to one and other for hours every single
night, they would tell each other how their days were and they would all communicate with each
other. This is healthy for a family to do because it brings them closer together as a family. Even
if at the end of the day the family wasn’t seeing eye to eye on something they would all sit down
and talk to each other and they would try to understand where each of they family members are
coming from and they would end up laughing and telling jokes to each other. This show is a
great show and really had most of the aspects of human communication, at the end of the day I
was able to relate it to human communications in one way or an other.
