Task 3:

The author Elisssar Gerges, stressing the importance of questioning in inquiry, which is the
most important part in inquiry based learning. Inquiry based learning is a process of asking
meaningful question, finding information, drawing conclusions and reflecting on possible
solutions. The author is a science media literacy advocates, helps her student to understand a
scientific concept and their ability to apply this knowledge in non-scientific situations. Using the
inquiry method by the author is very effective, since it helps student to investigate a phenomenon
by posing the problem, hypothesis, drawing conclusions and communicating results. Also
promotes active engaged learning making the students more interested in the science literacy
which considered to be boring by the students usually. Furthermore, inquiry model support
lifelong learning that is very important in science literacy help the complex information that are

The author through mentioning the advantage of the IRE model, invoicing, have helped
illuminating on the importance of the teacher to provide scaffolding for student. Furthermore, the
author through lightening up on the IRE model modification, reflective toss, showed another
important characteristic to be used to guide the process of questioning, by giving them the ability
to reflect and examine other’s thinking will help them reach metacognitive thinking, that make
them more self-aware and promote their growth and development. Both characteristics are found
in inquiry model.

I am interested to use the author’s ideas in my class, welcoming all the students’ questions
even if they are very simple in content. I agree with the author’s opinion that with time the
students will achieve better and through using a guiding questions called wonderment questions
the student will be guided through the participation in class discussion, enhance students’
interest, recognize misconceptions, stimulate students’ prior knowledge and allow students to
initiate his own thoughts. The author motivated me to help my students later on in the
questioning process and using of inquiry based learning to extend their thinking and reasoning.

In my opinion

The beautiful thing about inquiry is that it can be as

prescriptive or open as the teacher is comfortable with. A
key method of ensuring that students do acquire the desired
skills and knowledge is to ensure that the inquiry is grounded
in skills and standards.
