sessions shall include the summative assessment
tasks (exams) since this course is crucial in the
licensure examination
for teachers.
Assessment Task Submission of assessment tasks shall be on the 3rd, 5th,
Submission 7th, and 9th weeks of the term. The assessment paper
shall be attached with a cover page indicating the title
of the assessment task (if the task is a performance),
the name of the course coordinator, date of submission,
and the name of the student. The document should be
emailed to the course coordinator. It is expected that
you already paid your tuition and other fees before the
submission of the assessment task.

If the assessment task is done in real-time through the

features in the Blackboard Learning Management
System, the schedule shall be arranged ahead of time
by the course coordinator.

2
Since this course is included in the licensure examination for
teachers, you will be required to take the Multiple- Choice
Question exam inside the University. This should
be scheduled ahead of time by your course coordinator. This
is non-negotiable for all licensure-based programs.

Turnitin To ensure honesty and authenticity, all assessment tasks are

Submission (if required to be submitted through Turnitin with a maximum
necessary) similarity index of 30% allowed. If the paper goes beyond
30%, student will either redo her/his paper or explain in
writing addressed to the course coordinator the reasons for
the similarity. In addition, if the paper has reached a more
than 30% similarity index, the student may be called for
disciplinary action in accordance with the University's OPM
on Intellectual and Academic Honesty.

Please note that academic dishonesty such as cheating and

commissioning other students or people to complete the task
for you have severe punishments (reprimand, warning,
expulsion).
Penalties for Late The score for an assessment item submitted after the
Assignments/Assess designated time on the due date, without an approved
ments extension of time, will be reduced by 5% of the possible
maximum score for that assessment item for each day or
part-day that the assessment item is late.

However, if the late submission of the assessment paper

has a valid reason, a letter of explanation should be
submitted and approved by the course coordinator. If
necessary, you will also be required to present/attach
evidences.
Return of Assessment tasks will be returned to you two (2) weeks after
Assignments/ the submission. This will be returned by email or via the

CC’s Voice: Welcome to this course, REM 411 – Human and Physical
Geography!

CO: In analyzing the real estate market, it is more on location. In deciding for
real estate investment, it is always location, location, location, thus, human and
physical Geography is relevant to the study of real estate management. It provides
knowledge and understanding on the relationship between geography and real
estate that enable real estate service practitioners to guide clients improve real
estate decisions in all kids of real property.

Let us begin!

Big Picture

Week 1- 9: Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO): At the end of the units, you are
expected to:
ULOa. Categorize the areas of Human and Physical Geography and
ULOb. Describe the importance of Human and Physical Geography.

Week 1-3
Big Picture in Focus:

ULO1. Discuss Geography

Metalanguage

In this section, below are the most essential terms relevant to the
ULOa. Categorize the areas of Human and Physical Geography and
ULOb. Describe the importance of Human and Physical Geography.

For you to demonstrate ULOs, you will need to have an operational

understanding of the following terms below. Please note that you are still to
refer to the previous definitions

Biogeography
Is the study of the geographic distribution of plants, animals, and other
forms of life.

Depositional process
Is the laying down of material that has been eroded by wind, water, and/or
ice. There are several geomorphological classifications within erosional
and depositional.

Erosional process
Involves the wearing down of the earth’s surface by wind, water, and/or
ice.

Evolution
Is a process of gradual development in a particular situation or thing over
a period of time.

Geomorphology
Is the science of landforms, with an emphasis on their origin, evolution,
form, and distribution across the physical landscape.

6
Glaciology
It deals with the physical and chemical characteristics of ice on the
landmasses

Hydrologic cycle
Is also called Water cycle, is a cycle that involves the continuous
circulation of water in the Earth-atmosphere system.

Hydrology
Is the science that encompasses the occurrence, distribution, movement
and properties of the waters of the earth and their relationship with the
environment within each phase of the hydrologic cycle.

Landforms
Is a feature on the Earth's surface that is part of the terrain.

Landmass
A large continuous area of land, as opposed to seas or islands

Essential Knowledge

SUB – BRANCHES/ AREAS OF PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

* Geomorphology
* Hydrology
* Glaciology
* Biogeography

GEOMORPHOLOGY

Geomorphology is the study of landforms and landform evolution. It is the science of

landforms, with an emphasis on their origin, evolution, form, and distribution across
the physical landscape

It us literally the study of the form or shape of the Earth, but it deals principally with the
topographical features of the Earth’s surface. It is concerned with the classification,
description, and origin of landforms. It is concerned with the classification, description,
and origin of landforms

Such studies focus on the forces that mold and alter the primary relief elements of the
terrestrial surface. These forces include tectonic activity and surficial earth movements
(e.g., landslides and rockfalls). They also involve weathering and the erosion and
deposition of the resulting rock debris by wind, glacial ice, and streams. In recent
years, increasing attention has been given to the effects of human action on the
physical environment as well.

7
Geomorphological Processes

Fluvial
Fluvial geomorphological processes are related to rivers and streams.

Mass Movement
The mass movement process, also sometimes called mass wasting, occurs when soil
and rock move down a slope under the force of gravity.

Glacial
Glaciers are one of the most significant agents of landscape change because of their
massive size converts to power as they move across an area. T

Weathering
Weathering is an erosional process that involves the mechanical wearing down of rock
by a plant’s roots growing and pushing through it, ice expanding in its cracks, and
abrasion from sediment pushed by wind and water, as well as the chemical break
down of rock like limestone

HYDROLOGY

Hydrology has as its primary objective the study of the interrelationship between water
and its environment. As hydrology is mainly concerned with water close to the land
surface, it focuses on those components of the hydrologic cycle that occur there—
namely, precipitation, evapotranspiration, runoff, and groundwater.

Hydrology is the science that encompasses the occurrence, distribution, movement

and properties of the waters of the earth and their relationship with the environment
within each phase of the hydrologic cycle.

The water cycle, or hydrologic cycle, is a continuous process by which water is purified
by evaporation and transported from the earth's surface (including the oceans) to the
atmosphere and back to the land and oceans.

All of the physical, chemical and biological processes involving water as it travels its
various paths in the atmosphere, over and beneath the earth's surface and through
growing plants, are of interest to those who study the hydrologic cycle.

GLACIOLOGY

Is a scientific discipline concerned with all aspects of ice on landmasses. It deals with
the structure and properties of glacier ice, its formation and distribution, the dynamics
of ice flow, and the interactions of ice accumulation with climate.

Glaciology deals with the physical and chemical characteristics of ice on the
landmasses; the formation and distribution of glaciers and ice caps; the dynamics of
the movement of glacier ice; and interactions of ice accumulation with climate, both in

8
the present and in the past.

It deals with the structure and properties of glacier ice, its formation and distribution,
the dynamics of ice flow, and the interactions of ice accumulation with climate.

BIOGEOGRAPHY

Biogeography, the study of the geographic distribution of plants, animals, and other
forms of life. It is concerned not only with habitation patterns but also with the factors
responsible for variations in distribution.

Strictly speaking, biogeography is a branch of biology, but physical geographers have

made important contributions, particularly in the study of flora.

Biogeographic studies divide Earth’s surface—primarily the continents and islands—

into regions exhibiting differences in the average composition of flora and fauna.

relationships. Now, you are required to briefly explain your answers .

1. How can the knowledge in Geomorphology help in the real estate service
practice?

11
2. How can the knowledge in Hydrology help in the real estate service practice?

12
3. The Philippines being a tropical country, is it important to learn Glaciology? Why
or why not?

13
In a Nutshell

In this portion of the unit, you are to state your arguments or synthesis relevant
to the topics presented. I will supply the first two items, and you will continue the
rest.

1. All land masses are considered land forms, however, not all land forms
are considered landmasses.

2. Hydrology is not Hydrologic Cycle, however, Hydrologic Cycle is

Hydrology.
