Materials needed:
Task 4 Study Skills Cards Resource – Found under the Brainwave 11-12-year-olds Resources tab on
MyFieldwork
(Optional for Record Activity) Large poster paper and pens

Research activity
Ask students to complete the study skills and six needs of the teenage brain card sort
activity available under the Brainwave 11-12-year-olds Resources tab on MyFieldwork.
Students will need to categorise the study skills and organizational technique cards with the
six needs of the teenage brain. There might not necessarily be one right answer to this
activity since students may debate where to categorise certain study skills or organizational
techniques.
This activity could be completed in pairs or groups to allow the students to discuss their
responses.

Recording activity
Ask students to produce a poster, short podcast or video outlining up to three techniques for
helping them to meet the needs of the teenage brain and aimed at their peers.
Make sure to display or publish student work as a reference for others to see.

Reflection activity
Ask learners to reflect on how they could start using some of the techniques immediately to
help them. Ask students to answer the questions below in their journals:
What are some of the best strategies or techniques that will help me to overcome the
challenges caused by my teenage brain?
How might you share these strategies or techniques with others, such as your parents,
so that you can help them too?
At the end of Task 4, students can also use the Skills Rubric for 4.15 to self and peer assess
their learning.
