Faith, Love, Time and Dr. Lazaro

1. What were the various encounters of Dr. Lazaro with ‘death’?

 Dr. Lazaro was riding the boat when he noticed a boar sliding out over
the black water, and below, the terrible currents prowled, ready to drown
her in the depths of the night. was a sign of the blackness of death. How
easily a creature's life can be taken away and how precious life is It might
also be seen as a sign. Or perhaps it was a death symbolism seen by Dr.
Lazaro before they arrived at the cottage. He tried all he could to bring the
infant back to life. caring and simply focusing on the child. But it was in
vain. The child's blue skin had begun to turn gray. Ben softly poured
water on the child's head in baptism during the moment when the doctor
was contemplating and symbolizing death. The father represents the
conclusion of the infant's suffering in this world, while the son represents
the beginning of the infant's return to his Creator.

2. What is the difference between Dr. Lazaro’s and Ben’s beliefs?

 Dr. Lazaro's beliefs about and disbelief in God, faith, love, and time seem
to haunt him with a pressurized intensity – all because he sees a wide
chasm between him and Ben, his son, in terms of how they see life. He has
lost so much faith in God and life, while Ben, intending on becoming a
priest, seems so infuriatingly focused on becoming a priest.

3. What incident(s) made Dr. Lazaro lose his faith in God? What does his
name ‘Lazaro’ mean in relation to death based on Biblical context compared
to Dr. Lazaro in the story?

 He lost his faith because he had been a witness to countless, seemingly

random deaths, like a patient with cancer, then there was a baby who was
dying from tetanus, and most of all, his eldest son, who committed
suicide. Dr. Lazaro represents a kind of living death. His name easily
evokes the Biblical "dead man brought to life": Lazarus

4. What do ‘faith’, ‘love’, and ‘time’ entail of y(our) view of death, love, and
life in general?
 People who have a strong religious faith and have love and time are often
comforted by the idea that a higher power is a present in their lives. This
faith, love and time can help us cope with our loss and suffering. If people
believe in life after death, death may be seen as a new beginning.
