As a standalone course offering
Subject Code: Law 551
Subject Description: Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP)
The Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) is redesigned/reinforced as Summer
Apprenticeship Program (SAP) which the college had offered before. The law students will be
exposed to different legal exercises like memorandum making, writing affidavit,
complaint/information or answer, deposition and other legal forms. They are also made to witness
actual litigation in courts or quasi-judicial bodies like the DARAB or DOLE. With the aid of a
supervising lawyer (regular faculty), the law student shall be trained to perform the activities that
are done by the practicing lawyer whether in the law office or in the court practice. They will be
required to submit a narrative report with pictures/documentation for every office/court they are
assigned.
The law student will be assigned/distributed to different court or offices that exercise
adjudication, law enforcement, investigation and other activities related to court or judicial
practices. To have an equal opportunity to experience the different practices in the targeted offices,
a maximum of nine (9) offices/courts with eight (8) hours each shall be assigned to the law
students on a weekly-shifting scheme.
To compute the grade for the Clinical Legal Education Program, a fifty-fifty (40-60) sharing
scheme shall be adopted wherein the supervising lawyer will give the sixty percent (60%) rating
based on the criteria set for the CLEP and the head or personnel in-charge of the office/court
where the law student is assigned shall also give a forty percent (40%) rating based on the criteria
set by the office. The percentage rating by the supervising lawyer plus the percentage rating by the
head or personnel in-charge of the office/court assignment shall be the general average for the
subject- Law 551-Clinical Legal Education Program.
As a prerequisite to Law 551-Clinical Legal Education Program, the law student must be a
regular Third Year student who had taken and passed all the subjects in the Third Year Bachelor of
Laws course.
Brief Course Description

The college curriculum adjustment is done by offering the Clinical Legal Education (CLE) for
all regular Third Year Bachelor of Laws students during summer classes, which is a week after the
break of the second semester classes.
As a standalone course, CLE can carry a maximum of four (4) units that is equivalent to
seventy two (72) hours. It has a duration of nine (9) weeks classes/sessions.
