Volunteering and experience specialists, PLENTI,
are planning a special tour for bird enthusiasts and those who would like to learn about bird and other wildlife, and their natural habitat, in and around the Gudalur Valley of the Nilgiri Hills in South India. A highlight will be an introduction to, and by, the indigenous tribal people of the area and their culture and traditions. Except for a night in Mysore, for a visit to a famous bird park, accommodation will be a purpose-built luxury guest house owned by the tribal community. Excluding airfares, the tour price is inclusive of all costs, including a tiger safari and yoga sessions, which are optional.
Naturalist, Sandeep G, will lead the tour. Sandeep
co-founded Pikalara, a collection of conservationists and naturalists working to protect biodiversity and create awareness around its importance. He has been leading wildlife seminars in Bangalore for the last ten years and has been heavily involved in rescuing and rehabilitating urban wildlife where it is under threat and in distress -snakes as well as wild animals and birds. He is a researcher at the Foundation for Ecological Research Advocacy and Learning (FERAL) especially focusing on the ‘Frontier Elephant Programme’ which studies individuals and populations of elephants in human- dominated landscapes of South India. He is currently engaged on a project, devising strategies for co-existence between farmers and wildlife, particularly elephants. Sandeep has worked as a naturalist and researcher in varied landscapes and
on a range of projects and, amongst other activities,
has led nature camps, biodiversity surveys and birding workshops.
