A Well Worn Suit copyright Doire 24 th

Oct 2020

I’ve not gone over any more than I’m lost and certainly
not on the other side of any rainbow bridge.
The body has indeed had its time,
just like deciduous trees shed their leaves

An old tired tree falls

and a new one appears in its place.
The sound of the falling tree,
just like that of a life cherished and loved,
will reverberate for many years to come.

I am not therefore gone from you;

no, not even from your sight.
The body, just like a well worn suit,
stained with the trials and tribulations of life,

is no longer able to sustain and is threadbare,

weary and tired. The time here is simply borrowed,
we do not own it and it does not need to pay us our
dues. So, we take off our suit and hang it up.
The spirit however, which is the essence
of every living being has now ‘lost’ its mantle.
Like the tree, no more will it produce new shoots
and no longer will leaves sprout and give shade.

Now the spirit is actually free to do as it pleases,

to become alive in a different way;
In how you remember the once living being;
In how you smile when you remember their antics.

The spirit can now help populate your mind with

wonderful, happy memories, if you allow it;
the moments of complete abandon, the silliness,
the laughter, the inspiration and, the smiles.

So, allow the body to corrupt and go back to the earth

where it belongs and replace the days and weeks
of mourning and weeping with joy and openness,
allow my light to enter in and lift you and hold you close.
