DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION

OPERATIVE TECHNIQUE:

● Patient in dorsal lithotomy position

● Asepsis and antisepsis
● Straight catheterization to empty the bladder
● The fundus of the uterus is grasped with the left hand through the abdominal wall and the right hand is introduced into the vagina and
passed through the cervix up to the uterus along the umbilical cord
● With the ulnar border of the hand insinuated between the placental margin and uterine wall
● With the back of the hand in contact with the uterus, placenta is peeled off from its uterine attachment
● The placenta is then grasped and withdrawn
● Placenta is then checked for its completeness
● The fundus is palpated by the left hand to determine if the uterus is well contracted
● Uterine massage done
● Inspection of the perineum and cervix
● Asepsis and antisepsis
● Patient tolerated the procedure well
