Worksheet in _ SCIENCE 303: ASTRONOMY

Week No. __14

Instruction: Answer the following questions:

10 POINTS

Open the video clip entitled, “Life Cycle of a Star”. After watching the video clip, answer the
following questions:

How you describe a star?

Answer; Star a luminous ball of gas, mostly hydrogen and helium, held together by its own
gravity.

What is the life span of star?

Answer; Depending on their size, stars live for varying amounts of time. A star the size of our sun
lives for around 10 billion years, whereas a star 20 times the mass of our sun lives for about 10
million years, or about a thousandth of that time. Stars are born from dense clouds of gas and dust

Open the power point presentation entitled “Stellar Evolution – Life Cycle of the Stars”. After
reading and understanding the power point, and watching the video clip, answer the following
questions:

What is stellar evolution? Give the different phases in the evolution of a star? (15 POINTS)
Answer; The process through which a star evolves over time is known as stellar evolution. The
lifespan of a star varies greatly depending on its mass, ranging from a few million years for the most
massive to trillions of years for the least massive, which is much longer than the universe's history.
Massive stars transform into supernovae, neutron stars and black holes while average stars like the
sun, end life as a white dwarf surrounded by a disappearing planetary nebula. All stars, irrespective
of their size, follow the same 7 stage cycle, they start as a gas cloud and end as a star remnant.

Differentiate the Life cycle of a low mass star from the life cycle of a high mass star. (10 POINTS)
Answer; Both a low mass and a high mass star will begin by fusing hydrogen into helium, while a
high mass star will burn it more quickly due to the greater pressure and temperature in the core. The
ability to build heavier pieces is a second difference.

15 POINTS
Open the video clip entitled, “The Life and Death of Stars”. After watching the video, make an
analysis in line of this task: Trace the changes that happen from birth to death of a star. Discuss the
life of the stars.

Answer; The life of the star just like a living things I'll dust form a nebula becomes so hot that
nuclear fusion starts. A star is born when a cloud of gas and dust shrinks into a ball or it is formed in
clouds of gas and dust known as nebulae.
15 POINTS
Research on the significance in the grouping of stars. Discuss how stars are grouped.

The importance of stars can be attributed to the fact that they have aided people in navigating the
Earth. When it was dark, these stars would shine brightly, illuminating the sky and providing light to
the inhabitants. Furthermore, stars are critical since they are responsible for the existence of life on
Earth. The majority of stars are part of two or more stellar systems. Open clusters are loosely bound
together by gravitational groups of young stars. Globular clusters are spherical collections of older
stars kept together by gravity. Galaxies are stellar clusters containing millions to billions of stars.
