Activity 1.0

1.1 Introduction

The subject of community service is a subject which is included in my course. This

program made me understand the importance of community service and how we can
help each other to live in a better environment. Unfortunately I am not able to
implement this activity in my office because its closed to encourage workers working
from home due to the current situation with Covid 19.

Also I couldn’t carry this out in my house because we have some renovation going on
and I wouldn’t want to get in the way of the contractors. Also only one of my
colleague is able to join me in this activity. My sincere apologies for not performing
this indoors and have 3 members involved as the option to me is quite limited at the
moment. However based on the new endemic guidelines we can carry this out at the
park near my office. This is a common park where many employees gather after work
to lounge.

Due to the number of people who are there in the park everyday I noticed there are
some people who do not keep the place clean. I would like to plan a cleaning activity
in this park.

1.7 Planning and implementation of community service

- Started the community service assignment

- Purchased the biodegradable plastic bag. It cost only Rm 1.00

- Walked around the park to locate rubbish on the ground

- Picked up the rubbish with a biodegradable plastic bag

- Threw the rubbish in trash can within the park

7:00PM - End of assignment

1.8 Appreciation
I would like to take some time to say how grateful I am for my colleague to help.
Especially when all of us are working from home, my colleague drove to the office to
help me record the video

Initially I lacked the interest to perform community service. However that quickly
changed as I realized that it can benefit not only me but everyone around me. My
colleagues had spoken about how much rubbish is around the park and how it attracts
insects. Instead of reporting to the management about this I decided to help the
maintenance workers by performing this service/

Also community service was not a painful experience, it was a very enjoyable and
beneficial experience.Me and my colleague shared many laughs and stories while we
worked. It was satisfying to help improve these people’s lives.

I took pleasure in how much I learned by just cleaning a little part for the park. Also
we didn’t need much tools or needed to spend a lot of money to perform this. We only
needed a bag which I made sure to be one which is biodegradable. By cleaning this
park this will benefit the public health as it deters insects and rodents. Also encourage
more people to jog in the park instead of around it.

We also spoke to some of the people who were in the park relaxing that day. The
amount of respect I earned was an incomparable benefit that I received from
community service. I believe this promotes environmental awareness and well being
of society. It will also encourage others to keep the place clean or clean as they go.
Presentation of overall assignment

Community service made me gain confidence by giving me the chance to try

something new and build a real sense of achievement. Also community service can
have a real and valuable positive affect on people, communities and society in
general. It can also help you meet different kinds of people and make new friends. I
felt like a part of the community as it helped me feel part of something outside of my
friends and family.

Finally I would like to encourage more people to volunteer in community service and
paint a picture to show that it is not something which is unpleasant to do. Most people
who do community service have a great time, regardless of why they do it.
