There were a lot of questions when I read assignment OUMH1303. . I tried hard to understand
the problem. I do not know how to start writing. I started by following a forum handle by my e-
tutor and reading every comment on the assignment. I also join the google forums this gave me
some ideas and even took a long time to really understand it. I managed to understand more
about how to do it and what you expect. This is not an easy task for me as I am a working
woman and a mother who is three hours pregnant and working, but as a part-time student, I know
that I must learn to manage my time. Making videos is not an easy task for me because English is
not my native language and I rarely use English in my daily conversations. But that does not
mean I give up.

This reflective report is to reflect upon completing the English OUMH1303 assignment for oral
communication, the assignment asked us to do a speech video presentation entitled Culture. To
start a task, I must complete an essay first which is important for me to complete the task.

I need to prepare the outline of the speech and then record my speech. I find it difficult to
complete my speech because my English vocabulary is very limited. But that was not a barrier
for me to finish my speech. I surf the internet to find examples of speeches and also to find notes
on the culture to complete my essay. This is not an easy task for me as I have a very limited
vocabulary and work at the same time. As I said before, my English is not good, so I always
postponed my work, especially when I do not know how to do it or run of idea.

It took me about 2 weeks to complete my speech and I took two days to plan the recording.
There are many obstacles when making a speech outline. I do not have many skills in written
communication, and neither do I. I kept thinking about how I would do it orally when I was also
writing less. As I was writing, I realized that my writing was lacking until the thought of my
writing almost reached a breaking point when browsing my net and based on my dictionary. I
also asked some of my friends to check my grammar because I was not very good. Learning the

best way to manage my time is also a big challenge for me. I always postpone my writing
because I work late into the night and always feel tired. I realized that I needed to change my
way of thinking and approach to work. It is not easy for me to apply the habit of procrastination.
Therefore, in performing this task, I need my time management skills. Doing tasks outside of
deadlines can also open the door to creative writing. So I worked hard to overcome the habit of
delays and lack of confidence to write.

Going beyond essays and exploring my feelings every problem or action is something
challenging. This essay is for me to realize that there is no limit to the words of compilation
voicing something. I was able to complete simple actions in a million different ways, and I
explored each one to get perfection in my written words. I also take on new flexibility in my
writing by opening my mind to the scope of different expressions. State all the changes made by
this class in my writing is very difficult. However, during the eight weeks we spent together, I
became a more efficient writer. Not only are my words more in-depth and in-depth, my own
writing has used a new arena, I did not realize that that might be done with new technical
techniques and examining various others.

Doing writing is not as easy as I thought, but I managed to solve it. I planned to write the speech
for a week, but it took two and a half weeks. After I finished writing the speech now, it was time
for me to make a video presentation. Another problem for me, recording myself giving a speech.
I need to memorize all the words, intonation. It was a bit difficult for me to memorize it in one
day, so I decided to memorize it every page. As soon as I memorized it, I recorded it. quite
difficult for me because I have no experience in recording and even video editing. But I
challenged myself to do it. Sometimes, I have to retrieve a video because the pronunciation is
incorrect and the intonation is inappropriate. Not only did I sharpen my technical writing pieces,
but I also learned how to dig into my creative soul to see my emotions and experiences in new
ways.

As a normal recording, the video recording involves a lengthy process of removal and rejection. I
spend more time making recordings to make sure my videos are done correctly. When I finished
a part of the recording I made a speech, at first I felt embarrassed when watching my video. But
that did not break my spirit to complete the task. So I took it a second time, and I think it was
better than the first. What I have learned is that we must be determined to do the task and always

believe that we can do it. Likewise with me, I completed my speech and also made a video while
I delivered the speech. I am proud of myself for never doing it before. While doing all this, I
realized that creativity is one of the most important things. Although we do not master the
language, the creativity to deliver speech is very helpful.

Through this task, I learned that there are many different processes for completing speeches and
scripts. I also have to correct my pronunciation. I also highlight every word that is difficult for
me to say, so I realize it and do not make mistakes while making a speech. Color coding can tell
me quickly and efficiently what each part of the script requires without attaching it to a note or
memorizing it. I let one of my friends in my previous video let him comment on the video. He
did say that my video was quite informative and let him understand more about education. His
comments were quite impressive, but he said that I was a bit stiff while delivering a speech. I
accepted his comment and tried a second time to record my speech again and it looked more
natural. My friend also gave her ideas and advice to look more natural in the video. He also
managed to detect my error in pronunciation.

My personal view on video recording is that it is quite good for the first timer like me because
when we watch, we can correct mistakes and view the recording and choose the best one to send.
Making videos is also convenient because we know how to prepare and make preparations
before making a recording. If we feel nervous or make a mistake while making a recording, we
can stop and shoot again. To be more natural when giving a speech, avoid writing long sentences
because reading too many sentences can confuse us with ideas and will look awkward, practice
good intonation and pronunciation and also need to have great audio quality to make the video
more successful . Voice tones also play an important role in recording. As I delivered my speech
in front of an audience, of course, a question crossed my mind: did they hear me? Am I talking
too low or too loud? Did I mention it all? And that would interfere with my speech, and I felt
uncomfortable at the time. But when we do a recording, we can hear again what we have
recorded, and from that, we know we are speaking clearly, saying it correctly, or speaking too
low or too loud. If we make a mistake, we can correct it right away and correct it again.Again,
my own thought about owning this video is that I feel proud of myself for successfully
completing my video and also my speech. Although it was a bit difficult for me, but I challenged
myself to solve it. I should give a round of applause behind me for solving it even though it may

not be perfect but for non-native speakers like me. I am proud of myself for successfully solving
it.

Apart from learning how to write essays, I can also learn about the culture in my country. I feel
very proud and grateful to be on Malaysian soil. This is because Malaysia is known as Asia
Minor where in Malaysia, we can see the various ethnic groups available. With the diversity of
different ethnicities, races and religions, Malaysia remains strong. I also learned something about
my country, that is, even though my country is made up of various ethnic groups, the spirit of
belonging and mutual respect strengthens the unity between all ethnic groups in Malaysia.

In conclusion, I learn a lot about culture while writing about it. this essay had opened my eyes
how beautiful my county is. With the mixed ethnic under one country we have shown to the
world that we are unite as one. I think the development of practical skills and broader reading
contributed to my personal development as a teacher. I was not completely successful in all my
tasks; however, I pondered this mistake not to make it again. There is a lot of personal, creative,
technical and theoretical knowledge that needs to be combined with success in production, and I
will continue to develop these skills in my university work
