Most Common Causes

Most battery communication/charging/backup issues are caused by improper wiring or poorly
landed conductors.
Inverter and battery firmware miss-match issues can lead to this behavior as well.
Incorrect meter installation or CT placement issues will prevent certain battery modes from
operating correctly.
There is a Time of Use profile affecting battery operation.

Post Install Checklist

Verify that the battery communication wiring matches the picture below:

Post Install Checklist – 2 Batteries

Double battery installations require BOTH a Primary and a Secondary type battery.
These batteries are different models with
different inputs.
Verify you have the correct batteries prior
to install.
You cannot have 2x Primary or 2x
Secondary batteries connected to a single
StorEdge inverter. It is impossible to make
this configuration work.
Secondary type batteries have a yellow
sticker indicating their Secondary function.
SolarEdge cannot support issues arising
from improper battery selection or
installation of incorrect battery types.

Post Install Checklist – Backup Mode

Correct Auto Transformer installation is required for Backup Mode to function.
Failure to install T1/T2 temperature sensor wires will cause Backup Mode to fail with a “AT Over
Temp” Error code.
Failure to land AC wires correctly will cause the inverter to shut down completely during a grid
outage or cause Low AC Voltage or Phase Balance errors.
You CANNOT have a shared neutral connection on site – Backup Sub-Panel neutral wire must
ONLY connect to the Backup panel terminal block in the StorEdge inverter Battery Interface (DC
disconnect). If these Neutral wires are bonded to any other neutral wire anywhere else on site, it
will cause an error code and Backup Mode will fail. This may lead to hardware damage.

Post Install Checklist – Auto Transformer (ATX) Wiring

Ensure the wiring of the Auto Transformer matches the pictures below:

Don’t forget your

T1 and T2 wires!

How to check for ‘Shared Neutral’

NOTE: Sharing the Backup Sub-Panel Neutral will cause Backup mode to fail and may cause damages if
not corrected.

The neutral wire in the Backup panel cannot be connected to any other neutral wires on site.
1) To check for this: Completely shut down the inverter, including AC power.
2) Turn off ALL Backup panel breakers.
3) Insert one meter probe into AC (Grid) terminal block Neutral.
4) Un-land the Neutral from the Backup panel terminal block. The wire should be in free-air.
5) Touch other probe to the Neutral wire in free-air.
6) If your continuity meter gives tone, the Neutral is shared and must be corrected. OL is
correct.

Error Code 3x6B – Fix / Solution

Note: The battery firmware will not update if 3x6B error is present.
Verify there is a battery installed on site – if no battery on site, disable the battery programmed
into the inverter menu: Communication  RS485-1 Conf  Battery  Device Type  Set to
NONE.
If a battery is installed on site, verify all the battery communication wiring matches the wiring
shown on page 4. Ensure all wires are landed properly and check for internal breaks in the wires
using a continuity tester.
Verify the battery is powered on and the LEDs on the battery are ON.
Verify the correct battery types are in use: You must have a single Primary battery if using only
one battery. You must have a Primary and Secondary if using two batteries.
Verify the batteries are entered into the menu correctly:
 Primary: Protocol: LG, Device ID: 15
 Secondary: Protocol: LG, Device ID: 14
If the 3x6B error code persists after all wiring has been checked, or if there is also a meter
communication error (3x6E) as well and the wiring to the meter has been double-checked, please
perform the RS-485 troubleshooting outlined below:
Note: Set your meter to at least 1Mohm range while performing B, A, G measurements.
 Shut down the system completely.
 Remove the RS485-1 terminal block from the inverter’s communication board.
 Locate the RS485-1 B, A, G solder points just above the terminal block which was
removed.
 Test the resistance between the following points, document the values – contact
SolarEdge Technical Support with these values if the error persists.
 B and A:__________ ohm
B and G:__________ ohm
A and G:__________ ohm

High Voltage (HV) Chain Test / Battery Not Charging

If the battery is communicating but is not Charging or Discharging, it may be necessary to perform a
high-voltage chain test:
Do a proper system shutdown of inverter and battery
 Link to Video for steps:
https://vimeo.com/288572843
Check for LEDs on the battery – if no LEDs are on, the
battery is either discharged or in ‘Sleep Mode,’
contact SolarEdge Technical Support to see if battery
is in State 10. If the battery has discharged contact LG
support.
If the battery LEDs are lighting up, measure the output
DC voltage of the battery.
Next, measure the battery output voltage inside the
inverter DC Disconnect – it should also read ~200Vdc.

Battery should output ~200Vdc

If voltage incorrect, contact LG

If incorrect check all DC wiring.

Next, shut down the battery and inverter – DC and AC – they
must both be OFF!
Check DC fuses and fuse
holders for continuity.
If testing does not locate
a wiring, fuse, or circuit
breaker cause for the
failure, or if the results are
unclear, contact SolarEdge
Technical Support while
still on the site.

Battery Errors During Backup Mode Simulation + Normal Operation

BACKUP MODE
2x20: AC Voltage Too Low – error occurs during switch to Backup Mode. If the Vac on screen is
under 230Vac during backup, check and cut/re-land the Auto Transformer wiring. Connect
internet and contact SolarEdge Technical Support if the error persists. Please have pictures of all
wiring available.
2x1D: Phase Balance Error – error occurs during Backup Mode, most commonly due to a Shared
Neutral connection. Check for a Shared Neutral or damage to
the Varistor under the Auto Transformer input shown to the right.
NOTE: Shared Neutral wiring may result in damage to the Varistor.

NORMAL OPERATION
2xB5 – If this occurs during Backup Mode please establish internet communication to the inverter
and contact SolarEdge Technical Support.
2xB7 – If this occurs at any point during system operation, please perform a full System Reboot to
clear the error. If the system does not have a battery connected, get internet communication to
the inverter and contact SolarEdge Technical Support.
These errors may occur if the StorEdge firmware is upgraded prior to activation or if the inverter is
Factory Reset.
Never update StorEdge firmware prior to activation or run a Factory Reset unless instructed to by
SolarEdge Technicians!

Bizarre Behavior / Breakers Tripping

In some cases, your system may enter Backup Mode but the system behaves abnormally – lights
flicker, loads turn on/off rapidly, breakers trip, etc.
These issues are typically caused by a shared neutral connection or an issue with the Backup Sub-
panel wiring or a Backup load is pulling too much current from one of the phases or the phases
are imbalanced in the sub-panel.
To troubleshoot: Turn off the Backup Sub-panel breakers (all) and see if the issue resolves. If it
does, it points to Backup Panel wiring as the issue – disconnect any load causing the issue and
verify the amount of current it draws and check its wiring for any Shared Neutral connection.
Ensure loads in the Backup Sub-panel are balanced across Phase A and Phase B to help keep
voltages balanced.
