Introduction:

In this report, I will be focussing on promoting electric vehicles in a fossil fuel

dependant country like Qatar and will go through the pros and cons of the same.

Thesis: To establish the importance of electric vehicles in this era by replacing fuel engines

by drawing a series of comparisons to arrive at the conclusion with solid stated advantages of

electric vehicles.

Natural fuel supplies are limited around the world. Hence, electric automobiles will

most certainly dominate the market in the future. Electric vehicles are becoming more

popular. As electricity is a renewable resource, there is no doubt that they are an economical

option and does not pose any threat to the environment. The conclusion of the essay on

electric automobiles is that gasoline cars appear to have fewer advantages. However, lack of

charging stations proved to be the leading concern for the slow uptake of electric automobiles

in the current scenario.

Background:

It has been over a century of dominance by the internal combustion engine in personal

transportation. As the result of continuous usage of fuel there has been a depletion in oil

resources, which ultimately results in raise in oil prices.

The widespread adoption of electric vehicles might have a huge impact on society, not only

in terms of the technology we use for personal mobility, but also in terms of shifting our

economies away from petroleum and reducing transportation's environmental footprint. As

electric vehicles are a relatively new concept, it is vital to promote them, this paper will assist

people of the society in learning more about electric vehicles and how they will become a

more cost-effective and environmentally friendly option in the future.

Research and Methodology:

The purpose of this paper is to support the idea of encouraging electric vehicles over

gasoline-powered vehicles and to explain why this is significant by showing how electric

vehicles can be a better economical and environmentally friendlier option. I will use a variety

of publications and journals to support my argument and get to a good conclusion,

Qualification:

As a second-year mechanical engineering student pursuing my bachelor's degree, I am

qualified for this research. In my previous semester, I took the CM2180 and CM2181 classes,

where I conducted research on oxygen cylinders and wrote a recommendation report on

alternatives to plastic bags.

Proposed Timeline

Report completion will follow a strict schedule beginning on January 23 and finishing

on April 10.
Proposed Outline

This is proposed outline is a brief overview of the main sections of the final report.

1.1 Introduction

2.0 Environmental impacts of electric vehicles.

 Green house emission

 Reduce in consumption of fossil fuels

 Reduction in noise pollution.

3.0 Economical perspective of electric vehicles

 Fuel cost

 Operation and maintenance cost.

 Cost of vehicles

4.0 How is important to the future

5.0 Conclusion.
This article provides meaning for insights on the future of electric cars and goes into depth

when comparing the pros and cons of this emerging field in the car industry. I will be mainly

using this article to emphasize my points on section 2 where I will be talking about

environmental effect on the electric cars.

This article goes into depth in many different aspects of the electric cars. This article initially

gives a positive connotation to the use of electric cars due to problem that rises in the

transportation sector such as ‘crude oil dependency’, ‘greenhouse gas emission’ ‘air

pollution’ and many more. Furthermore, this articles have given visual representation of

various types of vehicle cars investigated in this paper. These 5 types of electrical vehicles

include; ‘ICE’, ‘HEV’, ‘PHEV’, ‘REX’, ‘BEV’, ‘FCV’. This article has made it clear that

electric cars are not zero-emission vehicles as they depend on the type of electricity used in

the vehicles. An interesting part of this article was the comparison with chart of 2012 v 2050

in terms of the co2 emmision with conventional vehicles and electric cars. The article
predicts the co2 to be reduced by 70% provided that electricity is not based on coal-fired

powerplant. this articles further goes in to talking about the expenses that can possibly occur

in the near future depending on how fast we progress as a society as well as the policies for

promoting electrical vehicles, to promote this instead of conventional vehicles some

supporting measures have been implemented like ‘free parking’.

This trade journal talks about the future Qatar holds on the production of electrical vehicles.

My priority for using this article would be in section 4 to talk about the impact this would

have on the future (focusing on qatar).

The ministry of transport has already begun strategies for the execution of electrical vehicles

assisted by Ashgal and Qatar General Electricity and Water Cooperation. There are other

national companies working with them like Karwa. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Khalid Al-Thani

has stated that these two national companies are set to sign the contract soon. The contract

includes the installation of 600 charging devices for vehicles such as buses for transport.

These devices will be held at various different places such as metro stations and bus stations.

It states the long term goal as to reduce carbon emission from buses by 2030 by the use of
electric public busses and school busses. There are incremental progression made with the

addition of 4 bus warehouses in several different locations such as ‘Industrial area’, ‘Wakra’,

‘Al Rayyan’ and ‘Lusail’. Meanwhile, there has also been 4 park and ride parking spaces in 4

different locations including; ‘Al Qassar’, ‘Wakra’, ‘Lusail’ and ‘Education City’, however

only 2 of these have been opened as of now. The other 2 about to be opened in the near

future,
