Cramming Habit

A habit is a learned behavior that is performed frequently and has nearly become
automatic, such as getting up early in the morning, drinking milk before night drinking a
cup of tea with breakfast. These are some instances of habits that may be applicable to
just one person. In contrast to habits, we also have bad habits. Some individuals
smoke, some excessively eat, and some may even act in ways that are harmful to
themselves. For most students, cramming is one bad habit that most students have in
common. Therefore, the grade and health of the student suffer as a result of the
cramming habit.

To begin, let us first understand how habits forms. Firstly, every habit, good or
bad has a trigger that stimulates us to do something in order to ease the emotion that
we feel. Secondly, it will become a routine, which is the behavior or action we take to
cope with the emotion that we are feeling. Lastly, the reward that we get from the action
we took whether it is good or bad for us.

In the case of cramming habit, the most likely trigger of cramming is the stress or
pressure that we feel for the things that we need to do. The stress or the pressure
stimulates our brain to have a defensive mechanism towards that feeling. So, to cope
with that feeling, we tend to do the task at a later time to avoid the stress or pressure
that we feel for doing the task that we are supposed to do in the meantime. the reward
we get from doing this is that we take the stress or pressure for a lesser amount of time
resulting in having more leisure time for us. With this, cramming become rewarding for
us since we got more time for leisure. As result, our brain registers it as worth it to
repeat, and that will become a habit whenever we feel stress or pressure for the things
that we need to do.

In order to prepare for an impending exam, cramming basically involves trying to

fit a lot of material into your short-term memory. It can cause panic and worry, which
makes it much more difficult to absorb information. Cramming habit is bad for students
because the students were unable to plan and think ahead of time, resulting in not being
able to reach the full potential of a student in studying. Also, cramming interfered with
the sleep routine of the students making it bad for our health. With this, not being able to
reach the full potential and the less sleep a student gets, the more it will affect his or her
exam result.

In order for the students to avoid cramming, the students must accept and have
the willpower to face the stress or pressure they feel in the face of workloads. Setting
their mind to prepare for this kind of situation makes their time utilization more efficient
and productive. With this in mind, students can avoid the negative effect that cramming
brings.
