1. If the average velocity of an object is zero in some time interval, what can you say about the
displacement of the object for that interval?

- If the average velocity of an object is zero, this means that the object has not moved at all which
suggests that it has a zero displacement. And if the object moved but has an average velocity is zero, this
means that the object came back where it started thus making its displacement zero over the period.

2. If a car is traveling eastward, can its acceleration be westward? Explain.

- A car can travel eastward but its acceleration is westward. If a car is moving at a constant speed
(traveling eastward) and then applying brakes or slowing down, the acceleration will begin to move
westward. This is proof that a car can travel eastward while its acceleration is westward.

3. If the velocity of a particle is zero, can the particle’s acceleration be zero? Explain.

- It can be possible that a particle’s velocity is zero, then its acceleration can be zero. This happens
because the velocity of the particle is at zero at any given moment in time and its acceleration is zero,
we can conclude that the particle is not moving and its velocity will remain zero.

4. If the velocity of a particle is nonzero, can the particle’s acceleration be zero? Explain

- It can be possible that the velocity of a particle is nonzero while its acceleration is zero. This happens
when the velocity of the particle is not changing with time which makes its acceleration of it become
zero.

5. (a) Can the Velocity of an object at an instant of time be greater in magnitude than the average
velocity over a time interval containing the instant? (b) Can it be less?

- The velocity of an object can be greater or less in magnitude than its average velocity over time when
the speed of the object varies at different intervals in a specific time.
