As of 2022, 77 different government space agencies are in existence, 16 of which have

launch capabilities. Six government space agencies have full launch capabilities and
extraterrestrial landing capabilities. Lately, the main argument for investing in further
scientific exploration of space is that it is a good use of resources that will be used to
stimulate global economies, and the main argument against it is that the Earth itself is
not fully explored yet because of the commercial space industry taking over.

The 2022 US budget for means-tested entitlements, incidentally, is $1030 billion.

NASA’s $23.3 billion budget (which covers a LOT more than just "space exploration")
would only add 2% to what we already spend helping people... less than the Social
Security cost-of-living increase we already got for this year. Some innovations
originally designed for space vehicles, including artificial muscle systems and robotic
sensors, make artificial human limbs more functional, durable, comfortable, and life-
like. Infrastructure investments alleviate poverty in developing countries through the
application of projects such as bridges, roads, communication, sewage, and electricity.

Some inventions that might still be unavailable without space programs are memory
foam, LEDs, laptops, camera phones, zoom, and laptops, among others. Space science,
technologies, and data have the potential to contribute in direct or indirect ways to
achieving all the goals. This incorporates scientific disciplines involving space
exploration and the study of natural phenomena and physical bodies in outer space and
often includes disciplines such as astronomy, aerospace engineering, space medicine,
and astrobiology. Potential material resources in space include water, volatile elements,
regolith, metals and minerals, nonmetals, and atmospheric gases. On the other hand, the
report shows that, through all NASA activities, the agency generated more than $64.3
billion in total economic output during the fiscal year 2022.

Finally, the most important arguments for space exploration are the improvement of
health care since experiments performed in space will be studied to understand health
problems on Earth; data will be provided to know about climate change; measure
pollution; help protect our planet and the products we use every day; weather forecasts;
and communications worldwide will be improved by space technologies.
